How many balls per game - 3 or 5?
« on: September 13, 2009, 04:51:40 PM »
Well, I though its time for a poll.  I'm interested to see what others have set their games to either 5 or 3 balls per game.  For me growing up I would spend my 20c on the older EM games as you got 5 balls rather than 3 on those flashy new ones!  But as my SS collection grows, I've got them set to 3 (inc Black Hole) as I prefer it.

It only went to 3 ball to make operators more money. In a game of pinball most of us only 1 outstanding ball, and the rest crap or so-so. I want 5 chances at getting at least one.  %$%

Having said that Drop a Card is a game where 5 balls is 2 too many. All the targets can be sunk with 2 balls easy enough. Probably other games like that.

3 balls all the way.

But if factory defaulting it sets it at 5 balls then that is how it was made so that is how I play it.

I never buy in either as this is cheating in my books. If I beat my high score with a buy in, I would always know I cheated to get it, extra balls won on the other hand are a different story.

My choices -

All DMD's 3.

Early SS (late seventies, maybe first or second year of the 80's) 5.

I don't have any mid to late 80's games, but those seem right on 3 balls when I play them, whereas the early 80's games (and before) seem right on 5, although debatable on Black Hole - I have it on 5, but sometimes think it should be on 3. But I'll leave it 5 so when Daniel comes around he'll get to play it more than 1 minute! ;)
