Just a quick update on progress with Jacks Open.  It still has a bug in it that has done my head in and I am pretty much ready to admit defeat.

My order arrived from PBR - new plastics set as well as new posts an lane guides are on the machine.  I have also sealed the backglass and got so very close to getting the machine running 100% after some adjustments and cleaning of contacts, cleaning of some score reels.  The 10's and 100's score reels now work and reset - just have an issue somewhere that seems to be related to the 10's points where the machine just dies randomly mid ball - typically when a 10 point switch has been hit.  If I manually flick the 10's relay once or twice, the game restarts as if nothing happened on the next ball - without flicking the relay, I have no ball advance/kickout, no flippers, no scoring - the machine basically freezes.  Any ideas I would be very grateful.  Problem also may be related to the drop targets,  Myself and a very experienced EM man checked the machine over for any loose wires, any wires touching, checked connectors and can't figure it out.  Sometime it does it one ball after another straight away, other times I can get a game or three out of it before it freezes.

Anyway, here's a few more pics of what she looks like at the moment.  New drop targets and maybe pop bumpers and I will just about be done as far as replacements go - then maybe a bit more detailed cleaning and polishing.

Blair - That is simply OUTSTANDING. Looks like a new machine, and don't the plastics simply highlight the great colors in the game ?

Do you have a schematic ? You will need one to work out this issue.

I have the schematic, just need instructions on how to use it unfortunately.  Any ideas where I should start looking?

I'd start at the 10 point relay and give the contacts a clean with a business card and then check the gap on each contact.

I'd start at the 10 point relay and give the contacts a clean with a business card and then check the gap on each contact.

Done that - this got the score reel resetting.  I have cleaned the contacts several time now and adjusted the contacts to the point where I am pretty sure they are spot on.  Could the relay coil have been damaged when the 10's score reel coil was cooked?  It half seems like at times the relay contacts aren't all activating, I don't know whether the coil is intermittedly not pulling on the plastic surrounding the contacts hard enough.

Process of elimination. You say that the game resets or locks up when you activate the 10 point relay. Now I don't have a schematic - so I'm guessing - But you can slip a small piece of cardboard in between a set on contacts on the relay (I cannot recall how many contacts there are on this relay). What this does is leaves that set of contacts open. So by process of elimination - you can have the set of contacts open and find out which set is causing the problem. That's what I would do.

Thanks Nino, I will give it a go.

The machine is having one of it's hissy fits at the moment and won't even eject a ball to start the game.  It is sounding like the carousel isn't doing it's full thing.  I will have to clean in and around it I think, there is a bit of grease and dirt around it - it was firing up fine a few hours ago.  It isn't the first time it has happened.

Once she starts working again I will give the cardboard a go.
