When to stop Collecting / hoarding ???
« on: November 25, 2008, 03:18:28 PM »

When does the "Thrill of the chase end" ???

Do you stop collecting when you have ALL your "A-List" pinballs ?

This has been something I've thought about since the "last" of my "Gotta have" pinballs was wheeled into my garage. Anyone that knows me is familiar with my "wish list" I've had in my back pocket for years ;

Fathom
Medusa
Haunted House
Spirit
Black Hole / Black Knight

Black Hole and Black Knight have fallen off the radar - Certainly, BK is of no interest to me anymore. Not sure why - but it is not in my sights. If a BH appears for a good price, I would consider. Same with a Devils Dare.. Strange, I LOVE SS Bally machines, but System80s were available out of a Child's Container - and I swooped...Hey presto - instant "wants" in a day... #.#

I'm just thinking if the "radar" needs to reach out further, or is it time to reflect and enjoy the games ? It's a hard question to answer, and for the first time in my like - I'm not "chasing a pin"... Have I gone "soft" ??

I guess if I ever came across a Gottlieb Super Score, Olympic Hockey or Williams Winner, Planets or Zodiac - I might feel that "rush " again...

Strange feeling to be in a "holding pattern" - I've never been "there" before...

 :D

Does the thrill ever end??

Well, i recieved a phone call regarding a WMS SKYLAB. I was going to go and get it, then thought otherwise and let it go. Guy rings me again and im off loading it in the van. So i guess my enthusiasm to pick up machines may have waned a little.
But in saying that, i have my wishlist which is quite extensive.
I wanted 50's pins real bad, picked up a few and now i have my refined wishlist for 50's pins. Ive found my "holy grail"of these and they are on their way. Some titles will have to go to make room, so its a refinement of 50's titles.
Then theres the later model pins i havent even started to collect yet,
So many SS machines i want.

If i had them all, id still be chasing others.
I still get excited with the phone calls,
i still check Ebay every day even though ive never bought one from it.
I never log off this forum.

I have nearly 30 pins now if you include the ones being shipped from USA, some are keepers, some are restore and move on machines.

When i got the SKYLAB home yesterday, i spent ALL evening giving it a clean, new balls, rubbers etc and then a few games to iron out faults - i should have been doing invoicing for my business.
Im itching to get back into it and sort out the little niggles.

Yep - i still get the rush!!!

I had my sights set on buying into Kingpin (did the avatar give it away?  && ) but now that's on hold, I found myself a little lost. I've had a few things I've been interested in, but with a house shift in January the thought of any more to move doesn't really appeal at the moment. I also think that the current economic climate has me a little jittery (and with no job come 31 December, can you blame me?)

So right now for those reasons I am in a bit of a holding pattern - the games I **wanted** other than Kingpin are in place, and provide all the entertainment I need. I suspect the collection might be static for a little while, at least until the next pin I spot comes up and I realize that it was one I always wanted too!

I don't think the search for good pins is ever over.  I thought I had every pin I wanted and while at Expo I went to Terry's house (pinballlife.com) and he had a flintstones machine.  I had no interest in that machine at all until I played it.  What a blast.  Now it's on my list of "buy it if you find one cheap."  I think the goal has to be to play every pin ever made and you may find some gems you had no idea you would like.

I think if money was no object, I would collect every machine that came along...(well almost every machine)...and just keep buying bigger houses to fit them in...

My games room is almost at saturation point.
Ill be putting machines in the front room next, im clearing a table out to make room. reckon i could get 4 in the slot it makes easy.
Theres always room for more pins, its just what you are prepared to lose to get them in thats the main hurdle.
I started with my wife... after that i got a free reign!

Ditto - I played Wotto's Flintstones and thought it was a blast. Very underrated pinball. I would look at buying one if the price is right.

When to stop? Are you serious? NEVER!

Mate I still get a rush after 31 years and after owning around 350 pins in that time!

Always looking for the next hit

you get pleasure at so many levels it never stops. maybe when the games room is full you manage the portfolio, drop some off to buy others. then there is the resto dimension. i still rate the greatest thrill as flicking that power switch after a major rebuild. if you start going soft nino there's stuff you can take  <.>
