I reckon from the lack of posts Beaky has a smile from ear to ear and enjoying what we all do - ripping in and cleaning a new machine readying it for a full rebuild!

Ditto on looking forward to seeing the resto of the year on a great game.

No guys i havent been stripping it down.
not yet any way.

haven't had a lot of time to spend on it.
I have had specialist appointment, my eldest son broke his hand so off to hospital.
worked all day to day and then after work i had to do a clean up on a godzilla. (all lamps + cleaning) + help move some pins

i am pretty stuffed so i will relax for a while.

Family first, Beaky. The pin will be waiting for you once you sort out the injury to your son. Hope all goes well with his recovery.

ok guys here is the story.

now first thing i would like to state is i am not complaining about mark.c.
The pin was bought in an  "as is" condition and i got my moneys worth and i am very happy with what i got.

i started by checking all conections and wiring. as i was doing this i found around 4 or 5 jumper wires soldered on various lamp p.c.b's under the playfield, more about this later.

i fitted a new Aus 3 pin plug and made sure the transformer was set up for 240v.

pluged it in and found no displays working. easy fix just a bad connection where the ribbon cable connects to the mpu.

next i replaced the roms with the english version (i didnt know they made a french version) before doing this i reset it to factory default and made sure the correct jumper was in place on the mpu for english.

i then found there was no speech, again an easy fix with the ribbon cable connection.

i noticed the insert lamps where quite dim so i checked how much a.c. voltage was on the 30000 uF cap for the lighting circuit and found around 7 volts a.c. a bit high i thought so i replaced the cap and checked the bridge rectifier. much better down to 3 Volts a.c. and the lights where brighter but still not as bright as they should be.

i then noticed a few lamps duller than the rest. when i checked the wiring under the p/f i noticed these lamps had those jumper wires i mentioned earlier across their diodes. after removing these jumpers (and cursing the idiot over seas who did this) the rest of the insert lamps where bright as a new pin.

i then printed out a copy of the lamp matrix table and highlighted every lamp that was out. every lamp that was out was on the same row. but i noticed one lamp on that row was still lighting up.
i found that the diode on this lamp socket was soldered the wrong way around so i removed it and soldered it on the correct way.
so now all the lamps and that row were out.
after tracing and testing the cable back to the mpu i found no fault in the wiring. but when i tested the output of this transistor with lighting plugs disconected it seemed to be fine. !@#.

i then rigged up a test lamp on a couple of aligator clips and hooked one lead up to the column and the other to the suspect row transistor i found it failing under load.
i replaced the transistor and bingo all the lamps were working.

next step is to replace all the rubbers and give it a clean.
i will post some pictures soon.

Those problems are typical of a routed pinball machine. Quick "half fixes" to keep the games going and earning $$..

I actually really enjoy reconditioning/restoring "container" pins - as there are many unique and interesting "fixes" on these games - and there's nothing better than repairing or replacing parts in a game you KNOW will be an absolute GEM when finished.

Kudos to Mark for selling you an "as is" BK2000, as they are VERY collectible and desirable pins to own.

I hope you have a bit of a "resto" thread planned ?

I know this sounds silly, but if that machine had of turned up in a fully shopped state, Andrew would have been unhappy.

For Andrew, getting it with a list of typical faults was also what he was looking forward too as well. Thats why he wanted a "As is" machine.
Saving money had little to do with it, it was the fixing, the tinkering, the "man versus machine" challenge he likes to take on.
Having a list of challenges to fix, gave Andrew a chance to get his hands dirty and have fun fixing stuff. Sort of like a retired mechanic asking the family to bring their cars around for servicing. This machine was no challenge for the Beaky.

Beaky made a list of the "fixits" and said "is that the best you can do, huh,i'll have u sorted in no time". "Dont mess with the Zohan " ! lol

It was extremely generous of Mark C to provide the machine this way to Andrew.Other sellers would probably have said "I cant win if this guy rings up and complains theres a bulb out or somethings not right, i want a discount". But the "As is" machine was exactly what the doctor ordered.Perfect.

Mark C has again provided another enthusiast with their dream pin and a big thankyou to Mark for his usual easy going manner. ^^^

Its nice to see ya mates happy with a new toy. Andrews already looking for the next machine.
And as for the BK2000, if I had to describe this machine using just one word, I would say it is XXXXXX, well, I am sworn to secrecy, but I would definately keep an eye out for the photos and the rest of the story, cause its going to be bloody worth the wait, plus some !

A customer wanted the pin in said condition, and the dealer provided it.
I dont get the fan-fare.

Edit:
Ok because I upset sum1 let me explain.

I appreciate what it means to Beaky to finally own his BK2k.
What irks me is the fanboi love that leads to sickening over-praise for dealers.
Markc knows when he has done a great job (I have allways had good service from him), but he doesnt need his bum constantly pashed-out for it. I think I just blew my 10amp fuse over it. Sorry if anyone was offended.
Cheers
