Ebay Pin Purcahase
« on: December 06, 2009, 09:11:47 AM »

A member bought a  pin a couple of months ago from a re-seller ,paid approx $2000 I'm lead to believed .
Was nothing like the description on Ebay ,details in the  photos was lost (taken to far away)
Clapped out container pin at the end of the day .(we've heard this story many time before)
He should of inspected it him self or got some involved to check it out before hand . .He feels really bad about it (ripped off). The seller is playing it down as usual, saying that it is a 15 yo pin what would you expect ?
Worried about potential future problems with his pin,and a bit nervous about asking basic questions on the forum  he asked me the following question.
Why is it when a member has a issue with the pin and needs assistance from the forum with a repair it's always the same old member helping out ,and not the resellers who could easily offer assistance and who profit from the members ?
Can't be sure about the answer,It's never crossed my mind ,but a valid question I suppose .

Mark your not the person in question here    $!& and I am not directing any alligations towards you mate .
I just want to be upfront with a question that was asked to me .

Cheers Tony

Hey Tony,

Sorry to say but the post is a little vague. Not having a go just saying that i dont understand what you mean by "always the same old member helping out ..". My experience with the forum (please dont read pro football MEGA thread) is that heaps of members chime in with useful help and im greatful for it. Encourage your friend to jump onto the forum.. Im sure with a couple of tips from LOTS of members will get his machine up to speed  ^^^

answered with a question:do we expect dealers/commercial repair business's to offer free advice, when they could be doing themselves out of work?

Ken (skybeau) is probably the only repairer I know who offers free advice.
Good on Ken, allround the best there is.

So true Extra Ball , I think you nailed it nicely .
In this case the sellers is 2 states away from the buyer , so with a World apart maybe a bit of assistance from resellers in other states would not be to harmful to their pocket , more of a good mate ship forum thing  :D

And I have heard Ken is a top bloke so many times over  #*# On Ya Mate

I can think of three or four members straight away who will chime in with good advice - actually that number is probably closer to 7 or more.

Some of the members tend to concentrate on or specialise in a certain era (EM, SS, DMD), so you won't usually get all 7 or so commenting on the one repair thread.

The trouble for a dealer putting their two cents in to one thread is that then they might be expected to help out on all repair threads which is probably not feasible. If I want help from someone in the business I expect to pay for their time; although I have found that you can go and ask questions of their techs when visiting showrooms and they are generous with their advice.

If your mate wants someone to fix it he can take it to one of the dealers/repairers in his area; there is no problem with you asking the questions for him if he doesn't feel up to that himself is there?

Bit vague (and a bit early in the the morning)  (((

I would suggest naming the dealer would not be productive - so keeping that in mind, I think the buyer should join up and ask as many questions as he or she  needs to get the game working. The are MANY of us that wait for "Repair" posts to help out.

Your joking Strangeways, how does it help future buyers to not know who these dealers are. That is the biggest load of crap i have ever heard. This guy bought a pin that was not as described and in poor condition,so why should he have to go through all the trouble to get it right. If it is bought from a private seller than you have to cop it,but from a dealer you expect more.Have been through this all before with a seller i named from Melbourne, and by the way to everyone who said to give him his right to reply  !@# i am still waiting. If this was purchased from a dealer i say name the MONGREL,it may prevent somebody else getting ripped off.

I agree with the sentiment, but at the end of the day it is one guys word against another's.
Allthough it is in the dealer's best interest to make good on mistakes, it really shouldnt ever get to public outing (allthough an extreme case maybe). You could allways say "buy the way if you want to know the guy PM me". Keeps the trash talk out of public view.

Punter - Keep in mind the context of my comments - I'm commenting as the site Admin, and I would appreciate the Dealer's name be left of this issue. I do understand your intent is to warn other members of the dealer's actions.

Naming the dealer will not solve the technical issues the machine has. It appears that the process of contacting the dealer for repairs has been done and has not worked out.  If the said dealer is not a member here, or does not have a representative on the forum, they cannot really help, or defend themselves. There's always two sides for every story, and THIS story is a bit vague to say the least.

IF and I said "IF", the dealer found his name dragged through the mud on this site and decided to take legal action - Then what ??

I can guarantee, naming the dealer would cause the thread to turn into a crapfight, as there may be be people that may have had positive experiences with the dealer. We try to keep that sort of rubbish talk off the forums for good reason.

I guess it comes down the initial point, the buyer should have inspected the machine in person.

However, with interstate deals that's not possible, so we take for granted whatever the seller tells us.
With that in mind, i tend to put on the "i'm buying a piece-o-crap, and i'll need to work on it" thinking cap.
At least i'm not so disappointed when a crap machine arrives  *%*

As we know, pinnies are complex machines, and sellers may describe everything they can see, but electrically, well, anything could paff out without warning.
Naming & blaming a seller publicly can be a good warning for other buyers, but, if the seller was innocent with the knowledge of the machine in question, then why not give benefit of the doubt?

On the other side of the coin, sellers who consistantly sell shyte machines as "near new" should be named, hung and fed to the rats.

MM.

Unfortunate but life is full of risks.

Trick is to ask questions, ask for more photos etc BEFORE the deal has been done. After the deal is done all the leverage is gone paypal or no paypal.

I agree with Extra Ball Ken Skybeu is extremely helpful but I would add that most people on this forum are very helpful. I dont care if they have a business or not.

I cannot think of a time I havent got help when I asked for it.

Cheers!

This forum will not condone "naming and shaming" unless definitive proof can be provided. By that I mean a repetitive theme of lies and deception that can be backed up by documented proof. Otherwise it's one persons word against another and that's where we run into problems. Almost always such arguments turn into sh*t fights with neither party coming off looking like the winner. The loser will almost always be the forum as it causes division between members. We don't want to promote tension between members.

My take on it is this...Caveat Emptor...Buyer Beware! You cannot buy anything these days on good faith and site unseen. If you don't inspect a machine in person then you're asking for trouble. You have to assume a machine is a heap of junk and don't be surprised if it is when it arrives home. I'm sorry but that's the cold hard truth. Your friend is as much at fault for not inspecting the machine as the dealer is for supplying a crap machine when he said it wasn't.

Would you buy a used car without inspecting it?
