my newest purchase - now with pics
« on: December 07, 2009, 05:34:30 PM »
Pics are up for anyone interested. Alright i had some real bad luck financially not long ago at the worst possible time and had to pass up a Future Spa. So last week i see a Stern Galaxy on ebay, looks OK, (always hard to tell from photos) I was 50/50 about it, not worried either way whether to even bid until i showed a photo of one from IPDB to my brother and he said 'this looks really cool, youv'e got to grab it, come on don't let it pass.' So i put a quick bid in last night, and that bid ended up winning at 11.30 today! I can't believe noone else went for it.

Anyway, Galaxy is not on my wishlist, but, it is a Stern SS and i've been looking for a Stern SS so i'm wrapped, this will keep me happy til a Paragon comes my way. :D

I'll post some pics when i get it. $#$

Good on you Brad,

This game was on my watch list and was real surprised it went that cheap!

Designed by the great Harry Williams!

Rates well on IPDB also: http://www.ipdb.org/rate/showrate.pl?gid=980

The photo of the Galaxy playfield on IPDB shows a fair bit of wear around the bonus inserts, on the machine i bought there seems to be no wear in this area at all. I don't think it's been touched up either cause the 'star' print around the inserts looks pretty bloody good (touchups would show i reckon). Looks like maybe a small amount of flipper drag (how do people let that happen?), but besides that looks pretty clean to me. Stoked.
I rang the guy (nice bloke) and he said there's no mylar or contact etc. on the playfield. I think 800 bucks is a great score. Have never played Galaxy hope she plays well. Backglass looks real good too, just hope the orange/pink word 'galaxy' has no fade or cracks.

One problem, i'm running out of room at a rapid rate, nearly time to invade the lounge room? :D

Hey Brad.

You'll find the glass is pretty faded unfortunately.  Especially the yellows.

Good news is that NOS glasses are not that difficult to find for this game from the US, and with the exchange rate the way it is, could be worth your while depending on what you want from the game.

OK thanks for the info Rod, i'm still very green when it comes things like condition of machines, but i'm having a blast. ^^^ I'll give the machine a good play and decide what to do eventually.

Hey Rod your'e spot on about the backglass mate, just having a look at IPDB and the backglass there has a LOT more yellow. Ah well i can live with that, to be honest i really did not expect to even be owning one of these today, i haven't done many comparisons or homework at all.

Brad

Wouldn't bother me either mate.  For that kinda coin you did REALLY well.  ^^^

Clean her up, give it a good bash, and if you decide it's something you'd hang onto for a while and you feel it deserves a new glass?.  Go for it!.

I reckon you could get one for under $400 delivered.
