The problem described above was fixed by reading the schematic and determining that switch P1G and P1F had to be closed for the player unit to advance past the "last"player - a bit confusing, but after checking the switch contacts on the Player Unit, my suspicions were right on ! I adjusted the set of contacts and the game worked.

Once that problem was repaired, I double checked the coin unit and a couple of score reels that needed adjusting and the game plays PERFECTLY..

Here's a couple pictures of the machine - almost done  $#$

GREAT fun to play, and I'm pleased that after rebuilding almost everything on this game - it works - just a couple of issues, but it plays !

Game works 100%. Just need to playtest it !

All that I need are some parts from PBR - lockout coil and some new headbolts.

It does need a backdoor, so I might have to post a "wanted" thread !

I'm really pleased with it.

Nino,

Just read this thread from beginning to end ..... I just don't know how you do it!  As a newbie to coming back to pinball (as per my intro), I am just wondering how the hell you learned all this stuff!  How long have you been doing restorations?  Are most things second nature, or do you still get surprises?

Thank you for sharing the detailed narrative and photos .... simply stunning stuff!  I suppose perhaps a silly question (but I'll ask anyway, since I'm new to all of this).  Are there any guides for those who want to give restorations a go?  I realise there is probably a gold mine of information on this forum, but do any of the "restorers" ever compile some type of guide for the next generation to learn from?

Steve

Thanks VERY much for the positive feedback  ^^^

"Why do I do it" ? - Because I'm passionate and addicted to the hobby. I feel it is "our" duty to document the restoration process for the next generation, with REAL "hands on restores" - no something you could pick up in a book. My Father was an Operator in the 1950s, so I grew up around them and I was constantly by his side in the glory days of the 70's and 80's. I could repair Bingos at the age of 14. I have years of experience that I wanted to share, and that's one of the reasons I wanted this forum to prosper - to share restoration experience. I never thought that there are so many other "like minded" people in the community. The next generation will be equally, if not more thankful.

Here is a "starters guide" - http://www.marvin3m.com/fix.htm

Update on the machine

The parts arrived from PBR today - Lane guides, genuine headbolts and a couple of coils. So All I have to do is ensure the coin lockout is working. Should be fully tested by the weekend - and HOPEFULLY - In the owner's collection. The final step is a little more fragile - installation of the backglass.

Thanks for the response Nino.  Don't worry, I knew why you do it - your passion is most evident.  I was just wondering "how" you did it, and have been doing it for such a long time.  Great stuff.  I can see that this is literally "in the family".  Thanks also for the link - will have a look.

Thanks,
Steve

This really cool pinball is completed - well as far as my involvement is concerned. As with all my restorations, it is the journey and the enjoyment of the process. Another awesome machine brought back to life.

As with all EMs - it will need to be "run in" and I will give it a quick service in a bout a month - just to check up on any issues that may arise. Last Sunday, Dave (Silverball), MartyJ and the owner of the machine, Marco (Pinfan) arranged pickup and delivery. It now sits in Marco's incredible gamesroom.

The backglass still needs to be installed, and I hope Marco will take some pictures when it is installed to close off this restoration.

All up - Took me around 100 - 120 hours. Generic GTB parts were sourced from RTBB and the machine specific parts from PBR.

Here's the final pictures prior to loading it on the ute !

Next restore : Will two two classic 60's Ballys !
