Relacing Insert Decals
« on: April 16, 2010, 01:50:19 PM »
Hi,

As sum of you guys know I've recently finished peeling mylar off a FT and in the process I lifted 2 insert decals which resulted in them lifting a tad and getting a milky look. I purchased a decal set from the USA and was wondering how to get them off and the old fish decals as there stuck on hard and once there off what do I use to clean the insert b4 applying the new ones?

Ta Peter

Pete,

Tough call without seeing actual inserts.

For me, in the past I've physically removed the whole insert, wet sanded the old paint off the insert and reglued/leveled and put new decal on.

Pete,
If I lived in Melbourne, and I had the enormous amount of talented pinball fixer peoples that u have in your part of the world, I would throw some nice alcohol in the fridge, and invite a few of the guys over for a quick hands on help/few pointers.

Surely, one of the forum members could volunteer and come over and help you out. This is a make it or break it repair/replace job that needs to be done perfectly to finish off all you hard work and put the icing on the cake, so to speak.  ^^^ ^^^ ^^^

Dont be shy guys, someone step up and help our good mate Pete out.  *%*

As Marty has suggested - remove whole insert, sand off till smooth and replace decals,

Mask area off and seal with a clear finish making sure you seal to a 2mm or so area of PF also as this will seal the edges also
