Metal Cleaning
« on: June 22, 2010, 10:40:14 PM »
What do you guys recommend for cleaning the metal parts of your pin. I have started to strip part of a playfield and before assembling again decided to clean the ball trough assembly, as well as the apron and the other stuff.

Tried silvo but didn't seem to work well?? mabe the parts are just to grubby or i need to work harder  %.%

I find the best results come from "Autosol" or I recently used a product called "Mirror Finish Metal Polish" . Both available from auto parts stores .

Try hitting them with Nifti and a rag then some mr sheen and fine steel wool.  Then try polish them with Auto sol ^^^

Or buy a cheap bench grinder and a buff wheel you will never go back  !*!

+1 for Autosol, great stuff, I find the paste much easier to use than the liquid

lol....one day to late. Liquid seems ok but i can see where the paste would have its advantages, next time.

The autosol is great thanx for the advice. Polished up a treat.

liquid is good for mag wheels etc. but I find the paste 'stays put' when on a rag for polishing small intricate items

Brasso is also excellent for polishing.

As Daniel said - Buy a bench grinder with a buffer wheel. Nothing beats the buffing wheel for larger parts.

A tumbler is the best option for smaller pieces.
