Is this bloke dreamin'? GTB Play Ball on ebay
« on: August 06, 2010, 09:39:09 PM »
Saw this on ebay ( http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Play-Ball-Pinball-machine-1971-Electromechanical-/160463167482?cmd=ViewItem&pt=AU_CoinOp&hash=item255c599ffa  ) - a Gottlieb EM "Play Ball". Starting bid of $3000. Who's going to tell him he's dreamin'? (Hope I'm not offending an AP member)  ::)
Wanted: GTB Aquarius backglass. Any playfield bits and backglasses from any EMs - nothing is junk to me.

Interesting line...

It has no ball shooter as this predates that item, the ball is ejected from the centre position....

Predates the ball shooter???...LOL!!!!!!  Game is a TURRET shooter

Based on the sole picture in the auction, I'll say it is worth $6000..  @.@

Now you would THINK that someone who owns (or owned) 50 pins would know a "little" about pinball machines and would understand the BASIC difference between the plunger and the "turrent" shooter (as Gav pointed out).

I know a little bit about pins, no expert by any stretch of the imagination, buy even I know that plungers have been around for many years before the manufacture date of that pin.

Bit off topic.
What's a turret shooter?

Instead of having a plunger, and plunger lane and an outhole, the ball drains into the cavity under the apron. There is a an assembly which is very similar to a slingshot assembly. When the ball drains and rolls onto the switch, the machine wait until the flipper botton is pressed (ususally the right button), and the assembly launches the ball onto the playfield. Pro Football is the most common machine with this feature.

Spot on about Pro Football and how the ball is launched. I should get around to finishing off the resto of mine.
I'm guessing there will be zero bids for this bloke's "Play Ball".
When it comes to baseball and (American) football themed machines, I have fond memories of playing "Grand Slam" (with the kickout holes for bases) at Macquarie Uni in the late 70s.
