when the planets align
« on: August 12, 2010, 03:27:00 PM »
Wanted this pin for a few years now, and my elbow doesnt permit me playing my sport (to a level I would enjoy). But no Tennis elbow stops me from playing pins ;)

In a moment of madness awhile back I put Nugent up for sale. I had a few offers, but knocked them back because I didnt really want to sell her. But when someone showed interest that owned a Volley, well it seemed the pinball universe maybe aligning. Took us both awhile to make our minds-up, and today the deal was struck. Yes it's very sad to see Nugent off, but the new owner and I have agreed that if the day ever comes that we long for our original machines, and providing we both are happy to do so, then we can trade back. The photo of guy playing tennis is my dad, he isnt with us now, and is the person who introduced me to pinball, and was twice the tennis player I could ever be. Seems pretty cool to have dad's photo near Volley

I am going to enjoy cleaning her up on the weekend, and it plays great. Big thanks to the fellow who owned her  and Tony as well.

Great story and a nice way to finish the last chapter on your search for a Volley  ^^^

A nice example of a great playing machine.

I think he is reffering to the photo on the left, next to the pin.

Yes, the planets certainly did align. I can't believe how lucky I have been since I entered the world of pinball, AA and AP. Somehow I got to meet Tony (Illawarra Steelers), told him I was after a Gottlieb card themed machine, he tells me his changing over his 70s EM collection to specialise in earlier machines, offers me his High Hand ..."and I have a great Volley if your interested", took both of them and thought I'd never part with either.
Then Greg (Extra Ball) comes into the picture. Could not meet a nicer bloke. Both of us very hesitant to part with prized pins. Both of us enjoy playing pinballs as much as collecting, so when the challenge of playing a machine declines, it is easier to think of doing something. That was the case with Volley and Nugent. I could never have sold the Volley but a swap for a machine I really liked (and in great condition) was something to think about. I played Nugent in my last year at Macquarie Uni and loved it.
As Greg has said, planets aligned and we both came out winners.
Thanks Tony for originally giving me the chance to own a great Volley.
Pics below of my collection before and after. Nugent fits in nicely and it plays beautifully.

BTW, Greg is a genius with measurements and fitting a pin into a hatchback Ford.
He would make a champion Tetris player.
Wanted: GTB Aquarius backglass. Any playfield bits and backglasses from any EMs - nothing is junk to me.
