Restoration of a Data East TOMMY
« on: August 14, 2010, 06:14:01 PM »
Well, yet another addition to the line up.  Not that I have enough to do at the moment, but this game has been niggling away at me for a while now for a second look and the opportunity came up to purchase a Tommy (one of two almost identical) from Oscar I had to jump.  Its a very interesting game, simple layout and bright vibrant artwork.  Bit of a sleeper of a game but gets some very good reviews and from all report one of the best players from D.E.  Should go very nicely next to the D.E Star Wars which I am loving at the moment.

Anyway, this game will not be restored for a while, need to finish off existing work and my Flintstones, then its up next.

The pics below are as is - straight off the container into my trailer.  Very clean indeed.  Blinders complete and working.  No hacks, boards all present and in VGC.

I replaced the power supply fuse clips (will do rest soon) and powered her up.  Blinders working (scared the crap out me 1st time).

Absolutely stoked with the condition and this game is screaming for LED's, mods and a premium sound kit from Pinball Tales (Timbo - start working on it for me).

Just to clarify in the pics - nothing touched except for a new power cord as goes on all my games!  *%*

I must be on a good run at the moment.  The G.I plugs (all) on this are like new.  Not a single mark.

Below is the pic of the rear of the translite.

Bit disappointed about the lack of Euro grime.

Looks like you grabbed a really nice example of a Tommy there Marty  ^^^

Cant wait to see it fitted out with LEDs...

How is the cabinet sideart? Any major damage?

Cab's pretty good Tim.  Bit of a scratch down one side, but its had a life so its expected..

Pete,

Blinders are a feature of the game.  There is a plastic 'cover' which comes out from under the apron during certain modes and completely covers the flippers, hence you're playing blind.

I can save you some euro grime from a machine or two and send it over to you to wipe on the Tommy if it helps... :)

Looking forward to seeing the results!

Playfield teardown almost complete..

Pretty happy with the state of the playfield and it was a surprise that even the most hard to reach bulbs were still new..
