if it wasn't for caveoftreasures pins i would not have remembered about the fuses being under the p/field
i remembered whining about there being so many fuses on his Gottlieb pins lol

So you were getting power to the coil, but the fuse was broken?

I still do not understand HOW the coil was getting power (you measured 12v), however flipper you reported not to be working and yet replacing the fuse fixed it. 
My knowledge of System3's is not fantastic, but if the fuse was out, so would the voltage.

I have seen fuses that look fine to the eye but have failed where the fuse wire contacts the metal and only show open circuit with a multi meter.
then there have been fuses that read fine with a meter but go open circuit with a load, but when you remove the load they test ok again.

were you testing it with the flipper button pressed in and with both the meter probes across the coil?
or did you ground the black multi meter wire to a braded ground wire else were?

he measured 12 ohms across the coil,indicating no short.and 53 v at the coil.i cant work it out either.i have looked at the circuit on my sf2,similar machine,and its got me stuffed..however we are talking eurotrash here
