Played Avatar tonight
« on: September 07, 2010, 02:04:21 AM »
As with every Monday night, all the gang were down at Joe Tripoli's workshop tonight drooling all over Sterns latest pin.
As you can see from the pics it looks pretty nice and the 3D translite is awesome to say the least. Gotta see if I can get me one.

Love the new logo

I played a few games and it seems like quite a nice machine.
Joe and ratbag (Gibo) put in a bit of time blinging it out with LEDs and it really sets the machine off.
Visually it's very nice but I'd have to have a few more games before giving it the big thumbs up.
The shot to hit the Mech square on is abit of a challenge but there is only the one ramp as you can see in the pictures.
The sounds are quite full though and the DMD animations are great.
Can't wait to have a few more games.

Mark's virtually said it all . . . but just to paraphrase . . .

The 3D backglass is simply exceptional!
The artwork's beautiful.
The colours and layout are just right IMHO.
The sounds and speech are awesome and intense (note the 8" cab. speaker)
The gameplay (after 6 games) is pretty exciting.
Nothing wrong with the plastic apron - sez me.
New lockdown bar system is much more positive than any predecessors.

Stern should be on a winner here - this is their best package in some time.

Ah yes, here are more pics from a respectable distance . . .

The presentation of this machine is awesome. Everything looks great - big question is - "Does it play as good as it looks".

Checking out the layout, the two left inlanes (next to each other) give the illusion that the playfield is a wide body. The gomeplay down the bottom half of the playfield should play very fast.

Thanks for the pics !

Lacking compared to older games maybe but I didn't really get enough games in to make an honest judgement.
It grabbed me more than Iron Man or BBH did.

Don't get me wrong, I liked Iron Man, it just took me awhile to get into it.
Iron Man and BBH just didn't grab me right away like some other pins have.
Avatar did though, but I really liked the movie and the pin does look quite stunning.

I played a few games also and have to agree with Mark best one for a while, it is a stunning looking game, it looks to be easy at first glance but requires accuracy with shots. Backglass is awesome and the game has an inovative ball lock under the coffin. In summary a good game that will do well home and on site I feel

I agree with Iron Man. Did little for me to the point where I stopped playing mid way and turned it off. Will give it another go in the future to see if impressions change.

Avatar looks great. Is this the standard machine or have the bulbs been changed to add more colour effect?
Still loving my Metallica Premium

it does look nice.

the only neg i have, is that avatar creature annoys the shit out of me like ja ja binks did on star wars episode 1. I wanted to strangle that dam thing !

if i could get past the annoying creature, it might end up being a great family game.  !@#
