Cyclone plastic repair
« on: September 18, 2010, 03:37:39 PM »
I thought I would try to deal with some other issues on my Cyclone while I am waiting for some electronic parts to arrive.

Here are some pics of the Bonus wheel from the backbox, which was broken.

I used Selleys "Knead It" putty to replace the missing plastic. This stuff is great!  I've used it before on a damaged cabinet and it sticks well and sets nice and hard.

First I used a drill bit which was the same aproximate size as the hole, then wrapped some greased paper around it to prevent the putty from sticking to the drill.
After packing the putty around the paper/ drill shaft i removed the drill bit and after a few more minutes also removed the waxed paper.

I needed to fill inside the hole a little more and then slowly file it out until it could just slide onto the shaft.  The diameter had to be just right so that when the grub screw is tightened, the assembly wouldn't tilt to the side.

I am very happy with the result, which should work fine now.  Doesn't look the best but is not able to seen once installed back into the game.

Haven't tried the steel version but here are some pics of a cabinet repair using regular Knead It.
This area was badly water damaged and after removing all soft wood, there was not much left in this corner.
After the repair , I was able to lift the entire cabinet by the knead it putty. Strong stuff!

I think you probably could just fill and drill it ok (probably be easier) but I needed this hole to be perfectly centered so used the drill bit in a different way.
