Who threw out a pinball machine in waverly, Victoria?
« on: September 27, 2010, 10:09:01 AM »
Hi All,

I got an interesting phonecall last week from a mate who often does the rounds picking up nature-strip garbage etc...
( he collects/hoards pretty much everything ).

Anyway, He wanted me to help him load a pinball machine into his van.....

WTF??? who throws out a pinball machine on the nature-strip for council clearance????

I couldnt help him on the day, as i was just heading out to work, but he said he wasn't leaving the place until he had that machine in his van...he struggled by himself and got the machine home safely...

As it turns out, it was a VERY nice "Party Zone", no cabinet fade (which they're known for) and no playfield fade or wear....
The pin was as near mint as possible....
What a find huh?

WTF !! !! !

Yep, we hung out later on Saturday and tried to think of a valid theory as to "WHY" someone would do that...

We assumed they would have at least tried to contact an arcade to sell it off....oh hang on, there are no arcades in Vic.....or an amusement seller, or have a garage sale....but to throw it out??? farout!

LUCKY LUCKY LUCKY !!
( i just wish it was me heheheeh )

That could be it? maybe the guy was thrown out or whatever....

We're keen to go back and find out more, or see if there's other machines (of any sort) to grab ;)

"WHY" would someone throw out a pinball machine ?

Maybe its lined with some illicit materials hidden in the panelling and it was a 'pick up"  #@#
Maybe 'someone else' was meant to collect it from the street  #@#
Maybe you will get a late night knock on the door one day soon  *!@

This is the second I know of now.  I repaired a Gottlieb Operation Thunder that had a flipper problem.  That was only thing wrong with it.

The new owner got it off nature strip during rubbish collection, he was telling me how he couldnt belive it.  This was also in Melbourne.

Lucky bastard.

Yes ive seen one on the side of the road myself..... i flew home to get the van, by time i got there it had already gone.

The EX boyfriend/ partner is a very good theory... i once got a call to pick up 2 machines.. GTB SOLAR RIDE  and GTB TOP SCORE.

The lady refused to take anymore than $5ea for them which she promptly gave to her 2 sons to buy lollies.  LOL- husband had run off with a younger bird and stupidly left his pride and joy pinnies behind.

What you should do is set up a email account on yahoo or google at an internet cafe or some place like that and post a letter with the email address to the house where your mate picked it up and ask if they have any more.
if they don't answer or say no then post another letter letting them know how much their old pin was worth.

it will make them think twice before sending another pin to land fill

What about if someone left it out for a mate to pick up ?

What about if it was a private sale and someone left it outside of the persons house, but ya mate picked it up before the owner got home. ?

What if someone broke in and tried to steal it but it was too heavy for two small blokes to put in a truck and they left it there.?

What if some idiot delivery driver got the shits n dumped it there cause the people werent home. ?

I would be knocking on the persons door and asking if it is 1 million percent legitimate. In QLD there is a law against taking anything without express permission. Its legally called "Stealing by Finding". Being in security,  I wouldnt sleep at night til I knocked on the owners door.  ^^^ ^^^ ^^^
