Do you worry about the ‘Price you paid’?
« on: December 28, 2010, 01:32:19 PM »
I know some people here seem to always find bargains.

This is for the rest of us.

You find a game, e-bay, whatever, that you would like
You either get caught up in a biding war, or your heart spoke louder than your wallet
And you end up paying at the higher end of the market

A month later, does the price you paid still matter, or do you just enjoy the game?

I've been on both sides of the fence, and it really depends on how important the game is to be part of your collection. If it is a "Holy Grail" pinball, then the price should not be that important. I think that if you have done your homework and are committed to a title, then buy that machine and enjoy the game.

If you are just window shopping and then get "caught up" in the moment (bidding war?), then your DESIRE for the machine is more than you budgeted for. This is demonstrative that you want the game MORE than you initially thought. The point being, it is now in your gamesroom, so you should simply enjoy it.

The only time I suffer disappointment is when the game is not as described, and you need to spend a lot of money on it.

while I've been lucky a few times I've also paid over the odds a couple of time as well. If so, I try not to think about it for a while. After a year I credit most games with $1000 in my mental "book of my pin values". Right now I have a very few games that oWe me anything!

If its the game you want then buy it at any cost I reckon-I did that when I bought CFTBL and had many years of enjoyment out of it and paid probally $1000 more than they where going for at the time and never ever regreted it-the only regret I have is that I sold the bloody thing ^&(

We all have a rough idea what a particular pin is worth and what you would expect to be your max bid to be if buying off ebay. But if it is a pin you really want then going over your budget by whatever you can afford to is no big deal if it is a hard to get title. You may never get another chance to get that title again, so for me i would go for it as you will be thinking what if i went a bit more and it will drive you mad.

Just had a Spirit of 76 Backglass shipped from Shay Arcade Group for US $135. All arrived safe and sound. $300 US seems steep.

Who did the shipping?

Just checked the box that it came in. Was sent through USPS Proirity Mail. The customs declaration lists postage and fees at $105.54
