Bally Spectrum on You Tube
« on: January 22, 2011, 01:07:03 AM »
I found this video of a Bally Spectrum in action, it has strange gameplay.  Pinball Database says it was releasd in April 1981 and had 994 units made so I bet this might be a rare game. It has a lot of ball locks on it. Interesting game......

Have owned one of these.
If the balls are not in the correct positions at start up then game gets confused and you can end up with no balls to play or all 3 balls at once.
I reckon this is why it bombed on site as operators had so many hassles with it. Its also NOT documented in the manual for this game and having balls in exact positions is something that i had to work out.. that took a while!

After owning this game i also swore that i would never own a machine that had no bumpers ..

But yes... its a rare game with a stunning BG

"Rare" because it was a low production model and it flopped on location. You needed to be a Rhodes Scholar to work out the ruleset - it was like playing a board game. An interesting machine that is not high on collector's "wants" list. Still, typical of this era, the artwork was excellent.

Would have been a nightmare to program this game,,, it sounds like a Bally Eight Ball Delux on steroids...........
