Weak RH Flippers on my Whitewater
« on: February 02, 2011, 08:10:00 PM »
Hi guys

Can anyone out there point me in the right direction for a starting point with a sudden weakness in the 2 RH Flippers on my Whitewater.

It played well yesterday and now both (top playfield and also the apron flipper) the RH flippers are lucky to open at all and very slow in response and are jumpy.

Do you have any ideas.......?

I don't know if it is linked but remembered over the last month there has been a random rare occurrence of sticky RH flippers.......

Swinks,

With the game off and unplugged, move the flippers by hand.  How do they feel?  Any binding or sticking?

First thing I would check is the EOS switch for both flippers.

Secondly I would check J109 & J110 on driver board (reseat)

If memory serves me correct the WH20 should be normally open, when flippers in their normal resting position.  Make sure they're not closed.

When were the flippers rebuilt last?  Might be time to put a kit through them.  Any pin which lands in my shop always gets a full kit regardless (not just plungers)..

Hi Marty

Thanks for the starting point - I will have to leave it to tomorrow to check those items as I have an unsettled bub.

Cheers

All of the above
But i would also be checking the opto boards on the flipper buttons
and giving them a good clean

Hi guys

> the J109 & J110  - needed a little push in.
> the opto flipper boards a little dirty - and got a little clean
> and the flippers aren't that smooth (a bit grindy) in motion compared to my Creature so will chase parts for a rebuild - as I have had it for a few months and noticed it was hard to get some of those shots (lack of power) and the last guy had for over a year so hasn't had a rebuild for a while.

The flippers are currently still a little weak in power ( like how I got the pinball - so sufficient for the moment) but are not jumpy nor slow in response so hopefully until the parts come for a rebuild that what I have has solved the issue for the moment and the rebuild solves all the issues.

Cheers again guys

Hi guys

I will need your help once more. I did a clean up of plugs, boards and flipper assemblies. Problem went away for a little and now with the cold has re-appeared - maybe coincidental. The problem most of the time is with the top right flipper, when I first turn the pinball on it is weak and can't make a ramp shot. After 15 - 20 minutes on the flipper slower gains some more strength. I spent a few hours trying to learn what else it could be with one discovery. I am hoping that this discovery will solve my issues.

See photo J104 and J105 seem to be swapped (I have not changed these - like that since getting it last Dec.) The paperwork says that the white with blue wires should be on plug J104 and there is also a label on the lead saying the say but wanted to check first before swapping.

Can you guys confirm the safest steps to take please.

I swapped the leads J104 and J105 to return to what the paperwork says along with stripping the top flipper assembly and now it has heaps of power and shoots the ball off fast. I did notice on my Creature that these leads were swapped also like with the WW - seems odd 2 machines from 2 different locations, anyway that one is working so not touching it.

I finally got time to install the parts for the flipper rebuild on all three flippers, the bottom 2 flippers are great, the top right flipper not quite right.

It is still weak, but at least free from grinding.

I went into TEST mode and checked the flippers coils - high power and low power for bottom 2 is good, fast flip on the top flipper is good but nothing happens for the slow flip (low power I am guessing).

DO I HAVE THE WIRING TO THE EOS BACK THE FRONT AS THIS FLIPPER WAS TOTALLY ASSEMBLED DIFFERENT COMPARED TO MANUAL????

CAN ANYONE HELP, PLEASE.

I checked the switch and there is no continuity while the flipper is not actioned (open I am guessing) and once the flipper is actioned there is a beep (closed I am guessing) - which I think is the correct way of having it. So if that helps along with my previous post of test mode - could it be the diodes on the coil or the coil or something else?
