anyone know a good melbourne tech that does house calls?

My maverick has a loose wire which appears to turn the dmd on and off. Could be linked to access panel. Blackjack feature also randomly activates on lower left drop targets now and then. Have a broken 8 drop target and a few globes out. Multiball acres is also suspect. Live in hoppers crossing.

If you bought the machine from a dealer, or reseller - you need to let them know and they might be able to send a tech out.

Just be very careful around the loose wire (if its the High Voltage for the DMD).  I wouldn't be using the machine in case the wire falls down and makes the game live..   ^&(

Weed of crime sent me a pm about the DMD cutting out and I think that "loose wire" may not be an accurate decription of the problem.

This is from http://www.pinrepair.com/de/index3.htm#dots

"On the four games (Maverick, Frankenstein, Baywatch, and Batman Forever) with the super-size 192x64 dot matrix display, there have been some problems. With age, the large dot matrix display may "blank out", or cause the game to reset intermittently. The dot matrix display controller board (#520-5092-1) has its own 68000 micro processor, which runs at 12 mHz. It operates best with logic +5 volts right at 5.0 volts! Any drop in voltage (to even 4.9 volts) can cause the display CPU to shut down or reset. As these games get older, the connectors fatique, and small amounts of resistance appear. Or the grounding strap going to the display board can become loose. These problems can cause the +5 volts fed to the display to drop enough to cause problems".

OK now I'm worried.

I just had a look at the schematics for the large display and it seems that the HV is generated on the board itself (+5vDC, +12/24vDC)....Normally on DMD games you can have upwards of 100vDC which is quite dangerous...

BUT any loose wire hanging from the machine is not a good thing, and not only for safety but the risk of damaging more components is quite high.

Those large DMD's are very very expensive..

For service call - Firstly try the seller, I'm sure they will send a tech...
Otherwise try Bumper Action (their new prices are on their website and quite reasonable)
Pinball Fixers are still in operation I think (google search their website)

You guys are awesome. Seller is coming out with a new cable of some sort and has given me a number for his tech. Will be sure to pass on your advice.

I have a few Segas with the supersize DMD displays, and most times the connector ribbon cable is the issue.

There is a new cable(upgrade cable) that u can purchase from Marco Spec or Bay Area Amusements which most of the time fixs the problem.

Here is the fix below - from Marco Spec

I added one to my Batman Forever and it fixed the issue  ^^^
