2hrs, 70 pins

1 pin auctioned every 1min 42 secs - yep, can see that.

BUT!!! The million $ question........ will it hit reserve in 1min 42secs?

As always...Low reserves = pinballs sold

hold the phone! 70 pins at an auction! the web site said 3 hours on sunday and indicated expo closed whilst auction on. if sunday is an all day auction then interstaters will have to think twice won't they? me is starting to think this is all about an auction rather than an expo.....hope rian comes on and clears this up. his email marked him as an enthusiast/hobbyist?? not a bloke that was trying to flog a bunch of pins?

so.... Rian is selling 30 of his own pinballs. wow. i understand why he is keen to get this off the ground. to get rid of 30 in one hit is quite a coup. I must go back and read his first email again, all that good stuff about the hobby, and 'keepin the dream alive' as he dumps his collection. i guess thats why no-one else (as in exhibitors) is allowed to sell any, it would be silly to dilute the potential market. I understand why you might not be coming Mark. I still plan to go (on the saturday) but it bothers me that if someone else in the future plans an expo (that is not about selling 30 of their own machines) that some people might remember this one and they might not be so motivated to show. I guess everyone can judge for themselves whats good for the hobby and what isn't and what will serve to keep the dream alive.

That's a shame Mark, but I can understand your reservations. I was really excited about the expo but was a little disappointed to hear that the expo itself will only run for half a day on Sunday, so I think I will only be attending on Saturday now and will spend Sunday in Sydney instead. I am still hoping the Saturday will be a great day with the opportunity to meet both AP and AA members, that is really the reason I will be attending the event anyway. Playing pinnies would be a nice bonus.

I wont be hanging around for the Auction on Sunday at all... seen far too many pinball auctions over the years.

Saturday should be a great day for meeting and talking with fellow pinball enthusiasts, but I'll probably stay away from playing any... unless there's some there I've never played.

Can't put into words how disappointed I am with the negative slant towards this....this should be the greatest chance for pinball to come together - EVER - in Australia and all some people want to do is drag it down.

How about if your not happy with the way the Expo is being set up - just stay away, leave the rest of us to enjoy it and please keep the negative comments to yourself.

My apologies Tony, I am definitely a culprit of the negativity. I am looking forward to attending the Expo and have high hopes for it's success, I just felt a little put-off by the thought that half of the second day would be dedicated to an auction. I guess I should not have posted my thoughts and just made a decision on the day as to whether I would travel to Petersham or not. I really want the Expo to be a success and become a yearly event.

I agree, this should be put together to bring the whole pinball community together, however I dont agree with -EVER- unless it is open to the whole pinball industry, not just a few.
Why should the profits from such an event go into the pockets of only the organizers, how does that benefit the industry.

I think the negativity is coming from people feeling they have been been mislead.
This was promoted as an Expo, but with the more information that comes forward its looking as though its just a front for the Auction. A lot of people are coming from interstate at a cost.

OK, people have the choice to give the auction as miss if they choose, lets just hope that the Expo side of thing lives up to peoples expectations.

Looking forward to the expo, will be a good chance to meet. I just hope that this does become an annual event, and it is not a one off. At the end of the day it is a huge risk that the organiser is taking, one that no-one else previously has prepared to take in Australia.

Millsy,

Rian is not going to cancel it. It certainly has created a healthy discussion and people are very sceptical of auctions for good reason. BUT< the vast majority of what is posted is general excitement and anticipation about Expo. The actual negative posts are a small minority and for some reason these are the ones that we seem to remember most. But its all good, people have been burnt by auctions and i have to agree that with most auctions - the reserves are set so high that actually having an auction is a farce and its the pretence that pisses people off.

A few thousand people will walk through the door of Expo, most of which are not on any forum.

When i try to look at this objectively, it seems that everyone would like Expo to be how they envisage it, how they would do it. Fact is that they are not doing it - Rian is and he is doing it the way he wants to - after all, its his money that is funding it. The hall, the advertising etc. People have been prepared to put their money where their mouth is and that is to be applauded.

Rian knows that for every negative comment, there will be another 100 people who couldnt care less and will be there auction or no auction to have a good time.
Expo WILL be a great success theres no doubt about that.

I know the auction will be bagged right up to and after the event....but take another look at it.

This guy - RIAN is selling off his collection to pay for this - anyone else prepared to do that?

Good luck to the bloke   $&&
