Hey Wotto, I am getting the gist of what you mean and how you do this.  I am keen to give this a go myself in the near future (for a few of the other game spinners I have that need some attention).  Thanks again for sharing what you have so far, and looking forward to seeing how the rest of this one for Surf Champ plays out.  Cheers.

You also have to work out 'layer'  opacity's in order to easily see what you are doing when drawing multiple layer stuff - theres a few little tips that make it easier - let me know if you ever need assitance OK

Hi Wotto

I grabbed the chart at lunch and took a few posts off the playfield to see the original colours of the playfield. Note: my pantone chart is a few years old but quite close I am sure.

The colours of photos I have seen look close to the playfield colours therefore the following was a close match and better than nothing.

White - I can't do this as my chart just has one white so I suppose closest to the apron white or vinyl white ???
Red - Pantone 032C - RGB equivalent 207,67,57
Blue - Pantone 3115C - RGB equivalent 0,77.6,84.3

The blue on my playfield was very different to what is under the plastic but I am not quite up to cleaning it as just gearing up for a restore closer to summer. The blue is close the backglass light blue with a bit more green to it.

I hope this helps.

Thanks Swinks - I will see tonight if those colour matches are available in P'shop mate  ^^^

Steve - here is the image I mentioned earlier today.....
There are 70 'points' to make up the outside path - remember - these all started as straight lines between each point.
I also have the opacity of the colour / white at 100% in this image

Here is the same image slightly altered.

I dropped the opacity to ZERO so you just see the path.
If you have your 'add anchor point tool' selected and click a point you get the 'handles' ( the long lines with the dark ends sticking out )

You grab ( click and drag ) the handle in/ out , left , right etc and the line changes shape
Note - in the example below I grabbed that left handle and just swung it to the left and down a bit and you see how the curve in that section changes.
You can also move the original point that you created to help make your shape.
You have to do that for the whole path.

Now in the next shot you can see how I use zero opacity with the original image behind my path so I can match the shapes edge nucely.

To practice or get used to this start a new file and simply draw a circle with your elipse tool, go to your pen tool and select the add anchor point tool' and click some points on the circle, then click drag and see how it all works.

Swinks - here it is in those exact Pantone colours.
I reckon that red may print very dull  !@#

Looking good Wotto,
You may be right, the red on the playfield is quite a rich bold red. The blue maybe a little bright also but then my playfield needs a overhaul and under the post is a bright blue.

Out of interest how long does it take you to do something like that, and is that your profession?

How long?
This one is a bit of a bastard to be honest - the girl is VERY hard to draw ( and wont be perfect ).
So far I have been about 4 hours on this spinner, I have been drawing the girl tonight.

However I did a spinner image from another game for Nino last week and the whole think took me an hour or so.
So it is very 'image dependant'

It definitely isnt my profession - totally self taught over many years  ^^^

Here is her outer path

Here is that path filled

And here she is with no hair and funny eyes

I have drawn the surfie chick as best as I can.
Some area's I really just guessed as I am unsure how it is meant to be

- The Face and eyes - the old spinner looked like the eyes were 'joined to the hair' - this looked stupid so I just gave her a simple face.
- The hands - lower one looked like it had massive red webbing so I got rid of that - right one did and still does look like a horses hoof.
- I had to guess the feet.
- The hair -  does it have holes in it , revealing blue area's or is that wear and tear in the original photos?

I am gunna guess that because this image is so small that you wont notice these area's too much when printed to size?

I changed the blue and red as well.

Cant spend a whole lot more time on this ......if you want to give me the actual dimensions of the spinner I will change these to that size and send you guys printable files so you can check em.

Mmmmmm... Ive never drawn with Photo Shop... only use it to fill etc.

I think its actually easier to draw this in Corel.

Once youve placed your nodes and have the straight lines.. is it possible to click and drag the line to the curve you want or do you have to use the "handles"?

Surely handles are not the only option to curve?

Hi Wotto

I had a quick look at the spinner, couldn't find my set of eyes so hope I am close with the dim's: 32mm high x 38.5mm wide measuring the end to end with verniers.

Cheers
