TOM Trunk strengthening and Newton ball issues

Hey guys,

Just a couple of quick questions for my TOM please. I am about to change over the trunk but want to strenghten it on the inside so it doesn't break so much. Can anyone here give me ideas on how to do that. One thing i thought of was to use the foam stripping that you get to weather proof door frames  Will this do a good enough job? I need it to strengthen and also act as a absorption barrier as well?? So that when i smash a shot into the trunk it will soften the blow on the metal housing/frame.

The other slight issue is the ball that sits above the newtone ball(spelling??) it keeps getting stuck half way up and won't drop down. Obviously this is a bugger as it activates the Vanish award among other things. Is this just a matter of using a lube or should i try and bend out the metal guides that sit either side slightly? Smaller ball? It has only just started happening, before this it worked perfect.

I lined the inside of mine with foam after the last trunk lasted 50 games.  It hasn't been on long enough for me to say if it has made a difference.  If you back off the nuts under the playfields holding the guides you may get more room for the ball to travel.  Also make sure the switch at the top isn't whats catching the ball

Thanks Rads, will look a the foam lining. Did you just use tape or glue? Thickness or doesn't it matter.

Thanks for the tip on the screws, would hate to think I need to remove the ramps again to give it a lilttle play.

I lined mine with tape. I think its called "mile a minute", its a wide tape that has what appears to be fine string in it. Did this at least 200+ games ago and it still is like new :)

I put blu tak to line as well as brace the trunk on the metal. Seems to work.

Also the newton ball problem, to me it sounds like the wire actuator on the switch the other ball rolls over may be too high/proud and a slow returning ball may not pass it. Try adjusting the actuator height. I have similar problem on the TZ skill shot which is exactly that problem

No probs arms are near good for decent pinney playing.

I use the double sided adhesive used for siderails. I bought it from Pinrestore.com

Tape I used was a dense foam about 3 mm thick.

My trunks the same its getting smashed to bits even worse now since I did the flipper may have to look at tape form bunnings. Another question for ToM owners when the ball spits out of the Trap door 7 out of 10 times it goes straight down the guts! I put a little bit of blu-tak under the lid and it does deviate the ball but it looks dodgy any one suffer this and has a fix, Sorry mate for the thread hijack

Same problem . . .
Different solution . . .
I used abt. 1/2" wide Black self adhesive Velcro tape (the hard loopy side) on the OUTSIDE of the trunk around the base.
This is not as obtrusive as it sounds and has been there now probably 4 years. Trunk registers hits perfectly and  remains undamaged.

Surprised that tape seems to do the trick from a couple of responses here. maybe i will just try that weather strip stuff and see how it goes. Just don't want to buy another trunk.
