Pinball saved my Comic collection
« on: October 28, 2011, 04:10:45 PM »
well i managed to get away from the shop today to do some work on my wcs game. i have a  replacement headbox i have in my spare room as the wcs headbox is shitty, so i need to clean this replacement up. so on my ways into the spare room of crap that was storing my headbox, which is that room every one has that holds all your handy and cool things that cant be placed any where else in the house, that room you clean up once a year when everything is scattered across the floor and you put all back into boxes and get back the floor space, well that room also holds my comic collection in a few boxes, i have been collecting phantom comics for around 15 years and have a prety big collection and some are very very old and a couple only double digits. whilst looking for my pinball headboard i noticed the room smelt a bit funky, so i went investigating. right under my feet the carpet was damp, and looked around to see where the water is coming from, it was actually a fair amount the more i looked, then i got this horid feeling, oh no my comics. they sit in that area against the wall where it seems to be the wettest. i was almost about to cry. well luckily when i got my wcs i put the board in the room, i picked up my comics to put the headboard in the spot they were only 3 weeks ago, and put one of the boxes of comics ontop of the headbox, thankfully none of my comics were on the ground, turns out i have burst pipe, and the pipe runs right along the floor of the wall of my spare room, waiting for plumber to come now. guess i will have a hole in my wall now. thank you pinball gods

So can anyone tell me why these things always happen on a Friday afternoon or worse, on public holidays? !@#

Lucky escape!!!

I had a roof leak once.. poured water all over my very treasured record collection. I lost  a few hundred that day   !!! !!!

This was 20 years ago, but the pain remains when i look at how many records i have now compared to how many and most importantly WHAT i had then!

that sucks mate, there would be no way i could afford to replace many of the comics i have if they were damaged today, the price they go for now is crazy and makes it hard to collect the old ones , im sure your record collection was the same, i would have been devastated.

You should look at zip lock bags, or some other way of keeping them safe. Nothing worse than having a close call like that and then getting caught out the next time.
It's amazing how much some comics are worth if kept in good nick.
