Data East CHECKPOINT new project pin day resto
« on: November 09, 2011, 07:42:27 PM »
Well I do like my car themed pins, picked this up a few days ago

A data east Checkpoint pinball, my new summer project...

Brought this from a brisbane dealer as is, playfield is in good condition for a 1991 pin, cabinet is average, artwork is ok.

Can't wait for the weekend so I can start the Checkpoint resto, lower cabinet tear down is the 1st stage.

This pin will come up a treat, here's the as is photo's.

Thanks mate, this will sit well next to my grand prix. Yes as this is my first ever attempt at a pinball resto so I will need all the help I can get from AP.

I've always been inspired by the talented members we have here on AP, so I thought lets just have a go.. its a good machine to start with.

Thanks nino, yes not many of these around.

A few reasons why I like this game :

1. I'm a data East fan;
2. It has a key start, way cool;
3. 1st d.e pinball to have a dmd (half size)
4. player can select music
5. game sounds very similar to BK2000 (same designer)

Very excited to start this resto, stay tuned...

Nice pickup mate.  Looking forward to seeing the resto and hearing your thoughts on game play.  This is a machine I have thought about chasing but I haven't had the chance to play one.

Well done, fun game, probably a little under-rated IMO. I played one for a while in some pub near Sydney when I was last up there. Very fast from memory, and I think the outlanes are either brutal by design or were set wide, not sure. I love car racing games too, that does appeal as well.

Enjoy!

I always wanted, and never had, a Checkpoint for whatever reason. I guess because it's a fun game to play (duh).

Enjoy.

Good luck with the resto Leon. I haven't played this one before, it looks like a fun pin. I like car themed pins too..although I am not in to cars...strange huh.

resto updates

lower cabinet has mostly been stripped and ready for repair/repaint.

happ ignition assy has been dismantled, painted and rebuilt.

plunger assy has also been rebuilt with new springs and shooter rod, really enjoying this project in the early stages.
