wanted, Diner stuff and drive in stuff
« on: January 12, 2012, 09:25:51 PM »
ok this maybe a long shot, but seeing some of the stuff people collect here and pick up, this might be the best site to ask.
im very much considering adding some more retro crap to our burger joint.

ok the quick story, as i like telling stories, lol
i used to build motorhomes and about 18 months ago i pulled out of an old school bus some old 70s style polished stainless bench seats with red vynal. to make way for a big conversion to a motor home. they looked cool and one of the boys at worked took them home and put them with his horde lol, ive been thinking about putting them in the shop as booth seats, as the reason we kept them was because they looked cool and we always talked about welding on a base to make work seats and never did, thinking they would look cool in the shop. but if i do that im thinking about some other extra's to make it all tie in.

Im thinking two options. one i highly doubt i will find at reasonable price as they are rare, is the swami napkin holders, the old usa diner fortune teller napkin holders.
the other idea is and probly more realistic to find. is i put old drive in movie speakers against the wall as a working feature. the old cast ones.
so if any one has anything like this id be interested in, they dont need the stand and i dont want to steal any lol atm its ideas but i am serious, so im fishing around, cheers

oh mate, its on my wish list thats for sure, see our shop is smack bang on the corner of town, its the first shop you see, and its been there since before i was born, as the shop it is today. it has the old coloured flashing bulbs out the front on the shops awning, that we turn on friday and weekend nights, but our door is built into the corner of the building, as our shop is in built also into the corner of the building and street, lol and above that door is a perfect spot for a neon sign. and when i saw a member here made neons it got the old brain ticking, to be honest it has a little to do with the route im thinking about taking. that and the fact my grandfather has a huge collection of old tins signs and what not i could use at any time, if i decide to try and make some deals with him.
ill be contacting gavin about neons at some stage im sure, lol. its tacky old shop and i think the best way for me to go is to tack it up some more, lol its a popular shop and people seem to like the tackyness, as long as its clean of course which it is

that would be awesome, the speakers dot have to work, as long as the grill is in good shape, and not concerned if the alloy is oxidised and what not as i would hit them with the buffing wheel. id be putting new speakers in them for better sound quality and ill rig them upto a new amp

Could be an excuse to come up to the sunshine coast???
Neon isnt as expensive as youd think and its still the best bang for buck you can buy.... no use having signage that doesnt stand out!!

Now then.... Swami napkin holders are always up for sale in USA.. but expect to pay $160 ea for them... i have a load of cards here for one that im collecting until i can get one myself..

Keep an eye on these web listings... if they come up, they appear on here..

None at the moment, but ive bought several 1930's & 40's gum machines through here before..

yer they seem to sell for a reasonable price in the usa none ship to Aus however, i would expect they would be allot more exy here in Australia. postage would be a kilelr to ship also i guess.

cheers for the link, i was thinking about having a settup with the swami napkins where i have bag of pennies and sell the penny for it for 50c or what not then they drop it in to get a fortune card, taht would be reproductions obviously well that was one idea i had. might come up with something better who knows.

yer ill be seriously considering neons mate, i know who to contact cheers

well i found a bloke on ebay who just listed some speakers, sent the guy a message so i might have some speakers hopefully if he has a matching set of two http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/300648877148?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

Ive also secured those old bus seats for the booth i was talking about above. as my mate still kept them which i knew he would seeing he is one of those guys who keeps stuff when he has vision for something,

im thinking i might be on the look out for a old style parking meter to stick at the entrance of the shop for a bit of coolness

ok bought two of these drive in speakers, prety stoked about them, they should polish up sweet as.

im looking at an old style parking meter on ebay atm, my thought for that is to put it at the door, and have it as a donation thingo, maybe for guide dogs or some shit, as my counter is over run with these f-cken charity tins they keep dropping off. so i might use the parking meter as a charity tin lol, and as the one im looking at has a spot for advertising i might put a laminated card saying what its about, recon that might be a cool thing to do. lol and free up my counter space. im goning to make this shop look tacky as all hell, lol

Sorry not for sale but thought I would stick my $10 parking meter up for you to see. Paid $10 for the parking meter off ebay, had the steel for the post already and the base was a front disc from a 72 Mustang from a friend. Had to take the disc to work and have a guy machine the hole out a little bit to fit the post into it. I think  it looks cool in the shed. Haven't painted it yet. It even works  ^^^

In the past year, i've seen 1 or 2 guys listing multiple lots of old drive-in speakers in about 5 different styles, no doubt they'll keep popping up.
