Random ebay buys?
« on: January 23, 2012, 01:08:21 PM »
I have a habbit of following links on ebay, after seeing something on ebay that is random and then buying it, sometimes i see something when looking through peoples listing i think is cool then i search and find my self on a hunt for that item. recently bought my self a 1930's cast iron 17inch toy calcium carbide cannon. that fires lol from the usa, it arrived today its prety cool. dont know why i bought it, probably not even legal here is aus, im now awaiting for the firing mechanism and fuel to arrive from usa for it, as they still make parts for this toy lol. i actually bought this item whilst looking for drive in speakers lol

does any one else do these sort of random buys? when you have no intention of buying an item the thought had never even came into your mind till you randomly find something and you feel the compulsion to buy cos it looks cool,? damn ebay?

you gotta post a youtube of that thing in action mate.

well my random buy, has had me spending all day trying to clean it up and get it ready for the parts i bought from usa. im trying to get it so its ready to fire when the parts turn up. so after about two hours i managed to unscrew the breach, as it had been used allot and after over 60 years the barrel was full of calcium build up about 20mm thick in areas, it seized the breach thread but got that undone. and so i could clean out the calcium with a screw driver, well well this is scary, in the built up calcium i find a .22 cal bullet entombed in it, lol some idiot kid must have thought it would be a good idea to put a bullet in the barrel when firing it, lol lucky for the kid it never went off. and it must have been fired 100s of times with that bullet in the chamber of the cannon. im cleaning now with caution,

ok here is the photos from the listing of the cannon i bought from the usa.
yer i recon thats a good idea ktm450 if people post their random ebay buys they need to post a picture lol. i really want to see this voice box of dans lol
whilst cleaning the thing, i found a price writen on the side of it, $2.50. which i have researched and found was the recommended retail price in 1935 when the cannon first came on sale, also found its the lighter army green colour, which was says its the early colour, in the 50s they were a darker green, and the later ones are black. so its pretty old and i dug out allot of build up so it has been used allot.

Very amusing Daniel *.*

It reminds me of that scene in Mad Max when Max and The Goose are talking to the mechanic underneath the halls of justice and Charlie ( ie you better send a meat truck - Charlies copped a saucepan in the throat ) says something about the Interceptor. Freakish!!!

They used calcium carbide (produces acetylene) in headlights. You maybe able to get it here but it is listed as a hazardous chemical.
