Whats rare game do you have in your collection?
« on: March 01, 2012, 07:42:46 PM »
I know that the word RARE starts a discussion:
Rare = I suppose less than 1000 ever made
Rare = does not come up for sale hardly at all.

This does not include KISS  %.%

For me when I really wanted a Skateball it was a search for a year and then Pinball Shed told me he just received one from Europe. I know it had a production run of 4150 but apart from seeing one of Nino's for sale a while ago I have not seen one come up for sale in the last 2 years since I have been in the hobby.

What rare machine do you have or would love to buy?

There are some that would call a few of my game 'Rare'
but the one I classify as such in my Williams EM 'Heat Wave' from 1964
I do not know how many were made, but there is very few of them left

Asteroid Annie and the Aliens, 211 made, hard to know how many left but with the System 1 issues back then, I suspect unlikely to be more than 100 around.

1950 LINE UP by Genco... only 10 prototypes made.. all went to the scrap bar 2 that found their way to Mr Kordeks basement.. i have one.
1948 TRIPLE ACTION by Genco... again, 1 of 10 prototypes made before game went into production... these were used to iron out design faults etc, which is why mine has never worked in 60 odd years. Its now 99% working.
1940 ANABEL by Stoner... beautiful and rare.. boring as f*ck

I used to have an Alvin G Pistol Poker.  can't remember the production run but it was pretty low.

Still have a prototype Pennant Fever (pitch and bat) machine.  Very cool game and great for something different.  Can't see there too many of these prototype machines in Australia.  It is the only Williams machine that uses a System 8 board.

My 1972 Willams EM "Winner" - although it doesn't meet your qty made requirement at 2100 (confirmed). It may well be the first 'wide-body' pin made?????

i have two
space hawks 250 made
and gtb rock encore 250 made, but i have the full machine, not just the upgrade for the the original rock game,
so i believe there was less than 100 of them?, not sure, it seems to be the gtb rock upgrade to rock machine is more common. it was a translight upgrade and sound board upgrade from what i have read,  where as my machine was rock encore from the factory with cabinet and all. sort of cool i guess. but i wish my machine was an upgrade as the original rock cab art was nicer imo

i love my space hawks game im going to keep that in my lineup,

Godzilla - only 500 made 1998 Sega(and there were 2 x different models as well - First 50 had 2 x flipper buttons each side with added magna save magnets (which got dropped) Mine is the later, being one of the 450 with std flippers, but retained under playfield magnets.

Viper Night Drivin - Sega 1998  - 1100 made only
Lost World Jurassic Park - Sega 1997 - 1000 to 1100 made only (figures vary)
Starship Troopers - Sega 1997 - 1000 to 1200 made only  (figures vary)
Independence Day - Sega 1997 - 1500 or less made (figures vary)

No accurate figures were set in stone with the "Showcase" Segas. Some insiders say that ALOT less than the reported "close to 1,000" numbers were even close.
After studying the IPDB serial number data bases, plus info from other machines and collectors, I can only ever find a 300 or 400 number spread on any data. Also, all my Sega machines have low production count machine numbers, so u cant verify any high numbers for the "supposed" production numbers stated by Sega etc.
Example, u will see "machine number 137". The highest number on any Sega "Showcase" I can find doesnt go past apx 400/500.

* I think the production numbers were half of what is loosely stated in most "production" number "facts" sheets. Alot of these games are absolutely well designed and great players. The fact remains that low numbers were due to a dying industry, versus machines that werent well made and designed.
Some of the Sega features/hardware/moving mechanical toys, are some of the best and most clever designs for DMD machines made through-out the 1990's.

Black Knight 2000 - they made alot, but hard to find (rarely sold from collections)
Bugs Bunny Birthday Bash - not many survive - (white cabinets - yellowed on site due to nicotine -not many around at all)

Some machines like Batman Forever - only 2500 made. Again, not too many made.

1978 Williams Phoenix - alot/many made, but how many survive in Australia ?

To a certain degree, half of the 1990's DMD games were by overall standards, low production numbers. So any game in great condition is worthy of calling at least "hard to find" tending in some cases on rare. Every machine saved is a good save.   ^^^
