What happens to cabinet serial numbers when you respray

As the topic says. My Card Whiz has a serial number stamped on the front panel. If I paint over it, it will be gone I think. What do you guys do?

I just take a photo of it with a ruler next to it.
I cant bring myself to stamp it in afterwards

I write the serial number on the inside floor (coin box area) in pencil .

I've also had some that are still visible after repaint, depends how deeply they are stamped and how many coats you use

All depends on how many coats you apply. what I do is use a scalpel to dig the serial number deeper, so when I repaint, it is easily visible.

After undercoat I used a scriber to remove the undercoat then after sanding and preping for top coat is can still be seen
