Pinball League - for Newcastle / Central Coast / Sydney
« on: March 14, 2012, 09:20:26 PM »
Luke has given me permission to list his intro to a pinball league in the area as well those from Sydney - whoever really.

"Im about to kick off a Hunter Region Pinball League. I have had numerous requests from guys in Pubs around the area to run a comp.
So i am going to do it, but for it to be sucessful we need as many people there as we can. Because if it is sucessful i will do it on a monthly basis and get each tournament indorsed by IPF so you guys can get an Australian ranking and World Ranking going forward.

The first one will be held at Beaches (Coast) Hotel in Budgewoi. Sunday 1st April 10:15am start
$6 enrty which includes Food, Drinks and Free pinball on the other 2 machines not used in the tournament
1st prize is an AC/DC 17 CD Collectors Box Set valued at $259

So if you would like to be a part of this please PM (specialwhenlit on AP) me and i will send you the details or if you cant make this one but would like to know when and where future ones will be held PM and i will add you to the mailing list.

At the moment there is about 10 guys already registered from the Pub. So i would like to have no more than 30 in the first one, so there are still places available.
First in best dressed. If guys from Sydney would like to compete, thats OK too.

Having run tournament before and having involvment with AMD running to Australian Championships, i said to Bruce that everyone talks that we should run events, but for some reason people talk about it then just dont turn up.
So this your chance to be a part of hopefully something that will grow into a great League (as other ops are doing the same in there areas).
If not no skin off my nose as i am doing this due to the vision that Norbert and i have about building a succesful League here in Australia, and cause im passionate about pinball. So if it doesnt work like it hasnt in years gone by. At least we have givin it a crack and can say "oh well we tried"!

So let me know your interest even if you cant make it on the date. Hope to see some of you guys there"

My own gut feel is that local Leagues are a great ‘next step’ in pinball in Australia.
I truly hope to see this type of thing grow in the future to eventually ( hopefully ) lead to at least State Championships or even one day a OZ championship.

Initiatives like this one of Lukes are really good baby steps along that path
DW Drums rule !

Totally agree with you Wotto,

What more could you ask for - $6 for a comp, food, drinks, 2 pins for the comp and another 2 pins set on free play and winner gets AC/DC box set worth $240 for the day when the comp is open to 30 people = running a loss but for the benefit of promoting hobby of pinball and boosting the pinball community.

We all just need to assist by supporting those willing to put their time into supplying pins etc for events like these.

Anyone in Newcastle, Central Coast and Sydney sign up for a enjoyable day - and I have checked that it's not a april fools joke  %.% - he assured me definitely there.

Four machines for the day:

Dr who.
Austin powers.
LE rolling stones.
Pirates of the caribbean

Not sure yet if 2 are comp and 2 free play or all 4 are for the comp.

I guess you could always use an emulator to get a feel for the gameplay if you don't have ready access for practice. I found them pretty reasonable actually.

Comp was at the Coast Hotel in Budgewoi - a great venue, recently renovated and heaps of room, heaps of machines on free play and a great fun time had all and always nice to meet some fellow pin heads.

Comp entry - $6 (included comp entry, lunch, 3 vouchers at the bar for beer, wine or soft drink).
1st prize was a AC/DC cd boxset
2nd prize was Series 7 Family Guy dvd set

Comp machine was the Rolling Stones LE - set on 3 ball with the lane post savers and centre post between the flippers turned off.
Another 5 games supplied and set on free play - Dr Who, Family Guy, Austin Powers, Ripley's Believe it or not, Pirates of the Caribbean.

Round 1 - paired up with another competitor for 2 games - with both games for each player tallied together, with the last place person of all the players eliminated.
Round 2 - paired up with another competitor for 1 game - with the winner between the two proceeding to the next round
Round 3 - remaining players played against each other with the highest and second highest winning.

7 guys turned up (which it was hoped for more) but sure more people will turn up for the next two (some special news - read on maybe even some interstate guys may not want to miss this one). 2 guys were locals, 4 guys from AA and myself representing AP. The 2 guys Steve from Mark (dedrok from AA) and Mark (Budgewoi local) were awesome players right from the start and were pegged to be in the finals very early in the piece. Some how I scrapped through the first round and had a flukey game against Daniel (figgi77 from AA who had a few outstanding games in the first round) in the second round allowing me to proceed into the third round. Then in round three Steve got 33 mil, Mark got 27 mil and I got 18 million.

Now for the news - this will be a repeated event roughly once a month (4-6 weeks) but to aid in getting improved numbers will also be a NEW pinball launch event  $#$ / comp using the launch machine in the comp. The comp will be placed in the same location - Coast Hotel, Budgewoi, and kids / wives are welcome as the the event is in a kid friendly area.

Therefore in about a months time comp No:2 will have the AC/DC Premium as the launch machine within a week of arriving in Aus.

Even better news is that in about 2 months time comp N0:3 will have the WOZ LE as the lauch machine within a week of arriving in Aus. This is big as doubt many of these will go into the wild and will be a rare occasion to test on as we had about a hour before the comp having some games on the comp machine. Even better is that this WOZ LE will then be sited in Newcastle  $#$ $#$ $#$.

So I encourage you to watch this thread and join us for some exciting comps, meet some people and then GAME on (for fun).

I missed getting photos of the winners so will borrow images off figgi77 once he has posted on AA.
