Do you have stencils for it Dean and is there webbing on the white?

My painter is a perfectionist and the last stencil cab he did came out a little too perfect ie no overspray, all in 2k base and a Matt clear.

If its done in 2k there is a bit of cost in paint ie primer, base white
Colour matched, then secondary colours also matched. Then Matt clear on top. Would be around
$250 in paint and materials. Acrylic or enamel paints much cheaper

don't have the stencils but the artwork on cabinet is still visable.  No webbing on mine, but maybe it has been repainted as photos I've seen of other ice revues they have webbing?

Ice Review would have webbing or "splatter". Could be both.

As long as you use the right paints and your prep work has no cut corners, you can try it yourself. You will need stencils, and Gavin should be able to knock these up for you. In my Jacks Open restoration, I used acetate sheets to allow for the overspray and underspray. This is more of a purist's method and it takes hours of work to do it this way, but it looks great ;

I'm using Gavin's stencils for the Pro football. I'll be doing this cabinet in the next two weeks.

Repainting a cabinet to a high standard is more labor intensive, and the key to success is preparation and patience. NEVER buy cheap paints, sandpaper etc.. That's a recipe for disaster  ^^^

I can help out with the cabinet repaint if you don't want to try it yourself. I have a lot of repaint work scheduled in the next 6 months (12 cabs last time I counted).

Lots of work, $400 sounds pretty cheap.

Nothing wrong with using spray cans IF you buy decent quality paint.   %$% and some of them really are total SHIT! I always get the best results from Dulux brand.
For a couple of games i did in the past i had the colours custom mixed by an automotive paint shop, one of the games was a Silverball Mania that i got the blue custom mixed and put into spraycans, it was done for a mate of mine and he paid me $500 to do it (he offered that much i didnt ask for it)  *.* Another mate who worked at the paint shop at the time did the colour matching AND got me the paint real cheap! I usually use enamel paint on cabs, but im thinking i might start using acrylic to save time since it dries faster, and using a spraygun/compressor setup, also as a time saving measure  *%*

As part of the job i also did some board work that was needed and reassembled and tested the game before he took it.
It was easily THE best cab repaint i've ever done, better than some of my own games  !!! I've got pics of the silverball cab/backbox somewhere, if i can find them i'll post them

Dulux and White Knight are pretty good - as long as you use their primers and not the cheap crap. I ended up "biting the bullet" and buying a Peerless P14 Compressor and selected paint guns from a professional shop. The cost is quite high, but the results with acrylic lacquers is such a huge jump in quality. The only drawback is you really need a booth to do the painting.

Have you considered starting by redecaling your Fishtales?

Stripping the cabinet back and spraying it black will start you off on some of the skills you will need to do Ice Revue yourself

Hi Pete,

Just don't have confidence that I could do a good job.  Dean

I know the feeling
That is what I love most about the forums, I can ask all the questions I want, and they all get an answer

One day I will tackle a cabinet repaint
I will probably start with a redecaling, I can sand it back if I stuff up the painting. I have put large stickers on the windows at work, as long as I havbe someone to help, I should be OK
After that I will repaint my Flash Gordon, fairly basic, no body will know if I do it wrong ;)
once I have the confidence, I will tackle my Playboy, a game that has to be done right
and maybe down the track, do a respray on my HeatWave (Williams 1964), like Ice Revue, I will have to make my own stencils, luckyly, it is just geometric shapes, unlike IR that is curvy

90% is the prep work beforehand.

Just sand off the old decals and there is no turning back, you have to follow through.  *%*
