Not surprised sited pins are usually stuffed
« on: March 02, 2009, 09:24:17 PM »
Was just thinking today as I had my head inside my Getaway adjusting the back ramp...and swearing..lol..
no wonder you dont see many pins on site and the ones that you do are stuffed...If I was going to site anything it would be Video Games for sure....Love my pins but can see why places like Kart Attack in sydney only have like half there pins working 100% after all most of the pins are like 15yrs old...so many small isssues with pins to go wrong...even just a stuck ball would stop the cash rolling in....Anyway I love my pins...Im sure it would be VERY hard to find a sited pin that plays as well as most of the pins the guys on here own...

Spot on. So many moving parts makes them prone to all sorts of issues. Even a broken plastic can block the ball from being played properly.

Yeah, it's pretty simple economics - capital investment and maintenance are both higher with pins, so unless you are making back much more than other forms of arcade games then it isn't going to make sense. Using either a return on capital measure or a return on investment measure, a pinball machine is going to have to drag in a whole lot more coin than a video game to make it worthwhile.

But if you don't keep a pinball machine maintained you don't make any money from it.

Paul - I once really wanted to try this - Site "Classic" pins - EMs and SS machines (my own). Just in a Family type environment - not a seedy pub - but somewhere well lit and secure. Somewhere where Dads could rekindle their past Pin addiction and kids could discover them in perfect working condition.

I'm a bit of a dreamer at times - But it would be like having part of your collection "public"..

It would be interesting to see what sort of dollars got put through these machines.

Where do you reckon the right environment would be?

Some where the dads can escape whilst the lovely is shopping....I would think those shops - like at Greensy plaza that sell all the beer / bar stuff.  I always see dads in there just looking..

It would be in a Family restaurant / bar setup - somewhere that hoons would not frequent. In an open area where the machines are in full view of staff.

The kids go to the indoor playground, mum and dad have a quiet meal and a beer - then dad plays pins for an hour or two

What about Zagames in the right suburb?

That's the name I was thinking of. There's one in Reservoir (Edwardes St). There used to be pins in there, but they are "hidden" around a concealed corner.

Now that made me LOL

"Here you go!  Here I am!
Uncle Moe -- thank you, ma'am!
 This'll be a treat:

There was a TSPP in there as of two weeks ago, a bit grimy but looked good apart from that - and it was around that corner. Didn't play it as I was going to the Bushfire Aid meet straight after and there was one there. Ironically I did not get to play it at the meet!

I wanted to do EXACTLY what Finny is doing - 10 years ago - but ONLY with Classics (EMs and SS). I had plenty of machines, but people kept buying them off me !
