More pinball in the media - soon
« on: June 22, 2012, 07:49:56 PM »
Another emerging public pinball story coming soon.

The Illawarra Mercury ( paper ) interview and photo happened this week.
The interviewer couldnt make it here in person and phoned the interview through.......she was really lovely and interested but knew little about pinball ( apart from hearing something recently about the ACDC pinball :D )

So in ONE hour, apart from talking about the League which was the main reason for the story, I was asked to explain pinball from its inception to current day and its future, flowing games, strategic games, my faves, my youth, pin companies past and present, various stages of highs and lows for the industry, IFPA and WPPR points system , why the league started , collectors in the area, both Australian forums, I tried to make sure she plugs our leagues main sponsors....RTBB being one of them, other Leagues ( so I put a plug in for Pizza N Pinball as well )  and just SO MUCH other stuff........she came across as very intelligent but it was SO much info to a pinball noobie that I reckon there is a high chance of some superb mis-quotes :lol

The photographer was excellent and as it turns out he was 45YO - loved pinball and spent ( mis-spent ) his youth in our area ( Wollongong ) and told me stories about his time spent at a well known arcade in The Gong back then - Flashback.
He even had memories of one of his epic playing days on a Jacks Open pinball

The guy was so interested that he and his mate do short documentaries for Fairfax media group and he now wants to do one on "pinballs place in society' over different era's.......so I think he will be coming to a local collectors big annual meet in October to interview a few of us for that docco  - but I have to confirm this yet as it gets closer:D

Will scan and post the paper story when published in the next few weeks

Great work Wotto, looks like you will single-handedly be the father of the renaissance of pinball!

Credit to Stern too for securing the AC/DC license - it is very much a factor in the Aussie interest I think.

Good work Wotto...

Sounds like you need to secure an AC/DC for your lineup!

Credit where "credit" is due. Wotto had the ONLY pinball restoration website in the country all those years ago. Definitely inspired many pinheads to tackle their first restoration. There's no better pinball personality in the country to be representing the wider community. I think the renaissance started 2-3 years ago, and the MEDIA are finding out about it NOW.

Keep up the good work Wotto  ^^^

I tend to agree with this statement to be honest.

And look - I aint no-one special, any of us could contact their local paper and ask if they want to do a 'social story' on pinball.
Its not too hard - takes an hour or two out of your life and you just tell someone what you know ( what we all know anyway )

This type of thing keeps pinball in peoples minds and hopefully re-sparks interest of some readers that may have long forgotten this game is still around - and 're-growing'

Hey all

Just a couple of ‘anomolies’ – otherwise the reporter did a pretty good job.

400 machines at Engadine – she got this mixed up with 400 games I spoke of at Pacific Pinball Expo in USA.

The kids thing – She asked if my children enjoyed them, I replied no and stated how my son and his generation prefer Sony, X-Box etc BUT if these kids were to take a close look at modern day pinball machines they might just realise that there is a LOT more to them that just 2 flippers and a ball ...........that all got translated a little “loosely”.

Other than that – its a good write up and it scored a full half page in the actual printed paper.
