AC/DC Playfield Wear
« on: August 29, 2012, 06:56:01 PM »
On pinside a guy came across a sited pin with some terrible wear down to the wood - it seems mainly from the canon shots.

http://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/acdc-pro-playfield-wear

For guys with this one take note, keep the polish up and as a few guys have said the clear seems thin.

step 1 - buy AC/DC machine
step 2 - strip playfield
step 3 - clearcoat playfield PROPERLY
step 4 - reassemble playfield
step 5 - enjoy unworn playfield for YEARS, not MONTHS

cheap/rushed production....sign'o'the times fellas.... :lol :lol :lol

Expect to see more of that in future titles.

But who would want a pristine AC/DC?

A real AC/DC pin would have scratches, scuff marks and a few ciggie burns

Meh playfield wear is nothing new.

My Gottlieb Devils Dare only had 50 plays on it.....But to quote a classic ebay line, "doesn't affect gameplay"

Are those photos of that AC/DC playfield real or someones gee-up with photoshop ?  !@#

If its real, I reckon STERN would replace the playfield in a heartbeat unless someone has used caustic chemicals on the playfield etc. I cant see the cannon causing that damage so quickly unless the balls have some sort of major flaws/pitmarks/rust or something terribly wrong ?.
The cannon side of the playfield has no reason to wear in that area at all, so i cant see how that area has been affected ? very weird ?

In any event, STERNS warranty process will take care of it.  I have checked my playfield tonight and the clear is well laid on. Time will tell if there are any other issues out there. Thanks for posting.

I would expect that kind of wear on a 20 year old pinball. That is a manufacturing problem. The clearcoat is too thin. I've seen EMs 40 years older with thousands more games and no wear.

The first thing I would do if I bought a NIB Stern is to have it professionally cleared as it should have been in the factory.

f**k how bads that....   Most Acdc pins I've inboxes have had some very average balls from day one and the clear cost is visible thin might give mine another coat of wax just incase I decide to play it one day lol.

If you don't remember the 70s then you were on drugs.
If you remember playing pinball in the 70s you were having a good time.
