HRP Addams Family Black restoration...
« on: September 30, 2012, 10:48:35 PM »
Hey guys,

Well i havent posted one of these for a while so here we go.

Starting out with an Addams Family. Pretty rough to say the least and hiding some pretty serious flaws...

Generally run down, and tired to say the least...

Teardown begins...

Backbox almost free of looms...

Fastforward a little and the cabinet is empty too...

The entire game is stored on a series of racks - organised chaos for a little while...

Playfield is stripped too...

Cabinet needed a new floor as the old was trash/breaking apart...

Getting all the trim and components ready for various plating...

Back to the cabinet, new floor is in and ready to mask...

Taped off nicely...

Both sides...

Stripped the old finish off the other panels...

Making the various repairs and getting the body straight...

Slowly getting there cabinet ready for refinish...

Repainted and ready to decal...

Looking a little more presentable now...

The playfield is moving through the process the whole time. Initial prep and clean happening...

This is the mansion before...

Cleaning up the various timber areas...

Insert art removed - i will replace all for this exercise...

There are a few other insert issues so the art was removed there too...

Nearly ready...

Playfield cleared and ready to begin reworks...

Ready for replacement insert decals...

Playfield is at 70%...

Ready to sand and polish...

underside freshened up as well as possible...

complete...

Now to deal with the remainder of the project...

All needs to present as well as the other harware...

mechs old...

mechs new...

mechs need to remain clean until required...

bolts refinished...

plated parts rebuilt, dipped etc...

Parts starting to arrive, boards serviced etc...

We decided to do a black edition, as Addams really lends itself to gothic stylings...

Wireforms were plated in black chrome, lovely finish...

Speaker panel cut and polished...

Speaker upgrade as requested...

GROSS!

polished and cleaned...

New trim and glass...smells a little better too!

Cabinet is somewhat rebuilt now...

Starting on the playfield...

I went with black skirts as it looks better than factory...

Playfield back in the cabinet...

Fired up for testing before populating the topside...

Swapping over plastics, ramps and the game will be ready for final photos...

The following; as always are just glamour shots, all the same, different angles - but gives a nice idea of what can be accomplished with even the roughest starting points...

here we go...

Thing carried onto the rear as per client request (and as suggested by John Youssi who saw the works in progress via the web)

Testing and playing through the game...

Thanks for reading guys, hope the photos werent overkill...

I would just like to send out my thanks to Greg at RTBB for digging up all the Addams plastics he could get
his hands on, and generally just going out of his way to help with these projects.

Same for local techs Daniel (ddstoys) and Christian (Nug) - for their endless efforts testing,
troubleshooting and getting these projects dialled in.

Finally a big thanks to Jady (Swinks) for pushing to get the black stainless mirror blades for the Aussie guys. Really finished off this title!

Wow!! Looking sensational Timbo!!

I saw this a few weeks ago after the black chroming was done, could see it was going to be another A+++ effort, lucky owner for sure.

Had the pleasure of seeing this game in the flesh and as with all Tim's restores its beautiful.  If anyone ever complained about one of his restores they should really get out of Pinballs as I doupt you will ever find better.

I popped down to Tims workshop a couple of weeks back, the photos don't do it justice.  The black chrome looks fantastic, at first I didn't notice it as looks like it is factory, side rails, lock down, legs, wireforms, etc. nice touch which really adds to the look.  Outstanding work again mate  ^^^
