Boxing day Pinball tournament!
« on: December 27, 2012, 09:00:12 PM »

Had some Friends over Boxing Day for "PINOFF 2012" Tournament.

Over beers we came up with the rules,

Ive got 4 machines in the Family room so all competitors had 2 hours to set and record their best scores on each machine,

Firepower, HighSpeed2, Terminator2, Twilight Zone..

2 hours goes pretty quick when your trying to set decent scores!

also you could only record 4 scores max for each machine so had to decide weather a score was worth recording early,

or wait for a better game or two..

top two players of the heats went thru to the final sudden death playoff,

on machine chosen by the top scorer in the heats.

interestingly a different player top scored on 3 out of the 4 machines,

Firepower was clocked, TZ was 800M+ and T2 was 100M+   *%*

I managed to win the heats and I made the mistake of Picking Firepower as the playoff machine,

It kicked my ass hardy got to touch the ball(anyone thats played FP will know what Im talking about),

and the trophy was won from a score of 150K!

was great fun highly recommend...

What tournament formats do others run or recommend?
Firepower, F14 Tomcat, Terminator2, Twilight Zone, No Fear, TAF, Hyperball, Sttng....

Man, you gotta get that playfield in!! Firepower is my most played game - like AFM - easy to understand rules, extremely rewarding gameplay, and it went from great to sensational with the new field.

When I have held a pinball competition, the easiest n most simple way I did it was to give everyone  60 minutes practice on the 4 machines total between all machines I chose for the comp.

Then, it was play 4 games maximum per game, keeping your best 2 x scores.

The highest score got say 10 points. 2nd Highest score got 5 points. 3rd Highest score got 2 points.

At the end of the night, the person who had accumulated the most points won the trophys and so on for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places.
I found if I did it this way, consistency won the competition. You could get the 2nd highest score on each of the machines for exampole, and still win the comp.

An easy fun way to have a home tournament on older 90's dmd machines.  ^^^
