A few more pics.. i reglued the inserts this morning and gave them a quick polish with some Novus 2.. starting to look good again  #*#

Last pic an overall shot of what i've done so far.. i kind of started at the bottom of the pf and am working my way up  :D
This whole area had been polished with Novus prior to taking the pic.

In the last pic the camera flash makes the red i've redone down the bottom look wrong.. it looks a much better match in person.

Great work! Touchups look fantastic.

The only work I don't myself on my pins is artwork, I just haven't built up the gonads to attempt it....yet.
VUK you!

Looks great, my favourite era and brand of pinball. I'm about to start a restore of my Firepower, these threads really help with tips and advice and keep the motivation levels up. New of but a full cabinet overhaul required!

More pics.

I'm replacing the bumper bodies as well as the skirts, since i had them in stock and they are cheap to replace and it'll look MUCH nicer with them.
1st pic shows the old and new ones together  :D

The rod and ring assemblies were polished in the tumbler along with all of the other metal bits i could get in there.
I also replaced ALL of the metal and fibre yokes as a couple of the metal ones were broken in half as most of these Wms are when you dismantle the bumpers!
I figure if one or two are broken the others aren't far behind so i replace them all.

New Pop Bumper bodies are mandatory on all reconditioning work - so I'm glad you replaced this cheap part. I cannot understand why these are often overlooked !

Question for you Mitch - When you have finished your playfield touch ups, do you level out the area completely flat ? Once the mylar is applied, can you tell that there are touch ups ?

It looks amazing once applied.

Hi Nino, yes i do sand the touched up/repainted areas so they are level with the surrounding original paint, or as close as level as i can get it, so obviously the less amount of paint you have to use the better as far as being level goes. Sometimes you do get minor variations height that show up when viewed at certain angles with light reflection, but it doesn't seem affect the game play that i have noticed so far.

Mylar will also show up low spots in touched up areas too if they aren't built up to the proper level, again they are only noticeable with light reflections (room lighting) off the mylar, even less noticeable under the glass. So clearcoat would be better in that regard as i guess the CC would fill these?

Mylar is just an easier, quicker and cheaper option for me to use and waaaay less labour intensive!! None of the clients i have done this for so far would want to go to that expense anyway  *.*

Finally done, and being delivered back to Ian tomorrow  #*#

ALL of the red posts were replaced with new ones, as well as the red lane guides.

In all honesty, this one actually gave quite a bit of grief doing the touchups, there ARE a couple of minor f**k ups in it, some of which would never be noticed by the average person, but still enough to bother me a bit!!  !@)

But Ian's happy with it so thats all that matters i guess  *%*

The plastics still have to be straightened, will do that tomorrow at his place and fit them last (after checking all the GI lamps are working).

Now to start on his backglass for this game!! Will post progress pics when i have made some progress  :D

Playfield has been delivered back to Ian and installed in the cab, and plastics flattened and installed..

Now for the backglass resto.. which i have started on and making good progress so far  *%*
It has really badly faded and flaking reds and yellows that i'm redoing, as much of as i'm able to that is!!

Will start a new thread for the bg soon  *%*

Very nice Mitch.

I think you have twisted my arm on applying full Mylar to older playfields.

Question - do you cut the mylar around posts ?

Thanks Nino.

Yes the mylar absolutely MUST be cut around the posts!! If the posts are screwed down onto the mylar it will bubble up around the posts.
I have detailed this a few times in the past in my resto threads.. but basically i cut about around the post about 1mm larger than the post diameter and remove the circle of mylar where the post will sit.
