Title: Twilight Zone - Topper
Post by: Pinprick on April 05, 2009, 02:42:40 PM
For the TZ fans. Robbie topper.
I found this remote controlled Robbie at a "Socrates" shop here in Perth. Did away with the remote, wired him to 6v GI and set up his own microswitch under the Robot Lock Lane saucer."The robots can help!" He makes a loud  "szhoob szhoob szhoob blip blip blip" noise and his chest LEDs flash up red. His upper body oscillates L to R and the whirlygig in his head spins. The little prick even tells the time . . .
Here are a couple of pics.

Thats a Fantastic addition.  What is a socrates shop?

Here's the long answer:-

Quote
Socrates started with an idea for a learning and discovery retail chain based on education, knowledge and creativity. The concept was developed to assist adults and children reach their full potential - but we couldn’t help but make it a fun exciting place to visit as well. In fact each store is a world of discovery.

Socrates was set up by two passionate Tasmanians who wanted a shop to be proud of, selling things that the whole family could have fun with. Our focus is to create an enjoyable experience for you - our customer. Socrates doesn’t use high-pressure sales techniques, but our friendly staff are fully trained in assisting you to make the right selection. Regular product demonstrations enhance the experience.

We put a lot of effort in to create the right environment and experience. Each site and store location is carefully selected. Our goal is for our customers to spend a long time in our store - and they do.

Socrates is a place where children grow into adults and adults learn to be children. Unlike toy stores, the atmosphere is one in which adults learn, play and discover as well. It is no chore for parents when children demand to go to Socrates. Our philosophy is that learning and fun shouldn’t stop when you grow up. Our product selectors give a lot of attention to children but the range of products for adults is also the most exciting and unique in the country.

I've seen this mod in action, very clever and very cool.
It even prompted me to try and find a few.

This one does look particularly interesting, though.

My mate Timbo built, decalled & custom painted this 1:90 scale Douglas Dakota DC-3.
It's suspended over my TZ and looks absolutely perfect.
I've just added my own custom pyramid with a 6v LED lit eyeball too.
Robby's electronics shat themselves, so now he is static, but with more detailing.
Also added the colour changing LED backbox mod (from Cointaker) behind Rod Serling.
It's bloody awesome too!

I am not a fan of cluttering the PF with all the 'bling' mods, but that is a cool topper

Cute toppers. Re the "Clutter", I think TZ lends itself to the mods as it's supposed to be a "curio" shop ala the translite - more clutter the better (except when the occasional airball snaps something off its mount, which seems to happen too often). I think someone should make a gumball topper that dispenses a real gumball when you get a free game - some sort of chute to run the ball down the side of the machine or something. That should annoy a few people! !*!
