eBay is not the market price of a game.
Using the Terminator 3 I sold Wotto yesterday as an example, then as a seller, I would refer to the current ebay auction of a T3 for $4995. As a buyer, Wotto would look at the unshopped T3 that sold for under $3000.
Personally, I have never used eBay as a pricing guide as the majority of games listed by businesses are more of a marketing tool to keep the prices high. The bargains are always auctions with low starting prices, and if you are a buyer cashed up at that point in time, you compete with other buyers that are cashed up. visa versa when there's no spare cash to spend.
If you list a game in January - March, you will traditionally sell poorly, as people have spent their money on Christmas presents and holidays. List the same game in August - October, and you will sell for a better price, as the tax return money is usually spent on luxury items.
Going back to the IJ, I have a buyer looking for a restored machine and he fully expects to have a game worthy of the $4500 price tag. He can pay that NOW at any of the importer's inventory, but he wants the game done properly.
