Thanks for the replies I hacked up a USB keyboard which seems to work. The jukebox program had options for use with keypad Marty.
The encoder I bought for the job was advertised as a keyboard encoder but looks like its a joystick encoder and the jukebox program Only recognises keyboard strokes
