Whatever is switching the coil is obviously staying on. Driver transistor etc.

Leave the coil disconnected until you find the cause as you will destroy the new coil if it gets too hot.

Get the schematics out and look - no point trying to trace the wiring loom really.
Replacement Pinball PCBs that remain faithful to the originals
