I use http://www.selleys.com.au/trade/building-products/fillers-and-gap-fillers/plasti-bond-heavy-duty/

You can get it in a small box with the material in a tube (rather than the tub version in the link). Dries without shrinkage and sands really well.

I'm sure others might have different ideas.
