The original #44 globes draw 0.25amps per globe.
#47 globes draw -.15amps per globe.

This doesn't sound like much but for example say there are 50 globes in the machine, probably more considering backbox lights + playfield GI (not including CPU controlled lights such as inserts).  The 44's draw a total of 12.5amps whereas the 47's only draw 7.5amps.  That is 5 amps less constant power draw and 5 amps less strain on connectors and components. 

If you don't want to go down the LED path there would be nothing wrong with using 44's in the inserts and using 47's for the GI and backbox lamps.  That would be the easiest way to have the best of both worlds - brighter inserts which are not illuminated 100% of the time and cooler running globes to preserve your backglass as best as possible.

I use 47's for everything and you don't notice the difference unless you have a machine with LEDs or all 44's sitting next to it.  The boards and components are only getting older, personally I would be doing anything to try to maximise the life of the boards over having a slightly brighter playfield.

EM and SS - #44 in the playfield inserts only. #47 in GI, under plastics and behind  the backglass.

you only need to look at the common problem of burnt connectors to work out that #44 throughout any machine is a bad idea ! LEDs in SS and EMs are a good option and use far less power.
