Many Sellers protect their prices by asking 'too much', knowing that buyers will attempt to beat a $5k pin down to say $2-3k, which is what the seller really wanted in the first place.
For a $5k pin, the unknowing buyer might offer $4k, thinking a $1k discount is awesome and yet the seller is still making a free $1-2k more than the intended with his $2k base figure.

No seller will turn away FREE MONEY.

Advertising for $2-3k initially will only attract more buyers who wanna beat it down to $1k before you know it.

Far too many buyers watching too many "pawn-star" shows and learning some bargaining skills that just dont work in real life. Pffft!
