Humpalot is correct - a faulty Bridge Rectifier is the most likely cause.

You can replace this with a 400V 35A (or higher) rated bridge. Jaycar and other electronics parts shops usually have these. Don't bother with Dick Smith any more as they only sell consumer electronics (TV's, DVD players, etc...) and not electronic parts.
