Ok guys have taken all the wonderful advice and still cant seem to get this one sorted. I have checked all the wires to ensure none have snapped and all seem to be intact and well soldered/connected. The plunger arm happily moves when pushed by hand and as far as i can see everything appears bang on the same as the right side.
I shall continue to tinker away - thanks again for all the help!
