Also, I purchased a new A-1496 pop bumper coil from Mark C with a diode on it - I assume I need to remove the diode if I put this into a EM pin?

I just had a quick look in my Solar City manual, the correct pop bumper coils are A-4893.
The A-1496 will probably work ok, and yes you will have to remove the diode if you intend to use this coil
