Beaky, have a read on the pinrepair site - I think I came across something that suggests Hold relay fairly frequently burns out because it's on "all" the time and there is an improvement to be made by sticking a higher resistance coil in and (maybe?) converting it to dc. Sing out if you can't find the details and I'll troll through where I thought I saw it.
