Made some more progress today.
First had to fix my stuff up on head box, taped up the curves using blue painters tape cut in thin strips.
Gave the damaged area a light sand and then applied the folded tape so as to avoid an obvious paint line,
pretty sure this tip came from Mitch on on of his threads. 
Gave a few coats and was very happy with result, hard to notice unless your really eyeballing the area.
