I loaned my Monopoly - now an issue
« on: March 18, 2013, 07:35:45 PM »
Hi all

Loaned my game for our last League night last week.
Now one solenoid keeps firing when the game is turned on and the game wont go into start up mode.
It is the solenoid that shoots the locked balls out from the extreme left lane in the game.
There are 2 switches there.

Just trying to get some ideas for a fix before I go and check it / collect it.

I am guessing a switch could just be jammed on ( physically jammed ) ?
Could a diode on a switch have shorted ?
Anything else ( and I never think of the obvious until someone here points it out to me  @.@ )

Cheers

someone will come up with a far better answer than me, however,

*check all fuses, check coindoor switch n buttons arent jammed in, and try to disconnect that one solenoid to see if the game starts up.

*If u can disconnect that one solenoid without cutting wires, look at your manual and remove the plug on the main board that runs the solenoids, this shld allow the game to then start up at least. I am hoping the semi locked on coil is only a switch and it hasnt travelled back to the main board.
If this doesnt work, disconnect all switches from game by again removing relevant switch matrix plug on main board.
I know this works on other brands, and i cant see a Stern being any different.

Most likely as you say Wotto,  a switch may be physically bent and stuck closed which should be easy to check/identify using the built in diagnostics. Provided you can access the diagnostics?

A bad diode would more likely prevent a switch from working but I think they can also 'short' on.

If you don't remember the 70s then you were on drugs.
If you remember playing pinball in the 70s you were having a good time.

You can try starting the game with the door open to disable the solenoid, then run diagnostic tests

Yeah – I would do that , my mate who is looking at it ( in his house right now ) is completely clueless, and I say that respectfully as he would admit that he is  , and he probably hasn’t opened the coin door.
